BUJUMBURA, Dec 30 (Reuters) - Burundi's President Evariste Ndayishimiye has called on citizens to stone gay people, escalating a crackdown on sexual minorities in a country where LGBT people already face social ostracism and jail terms of up to two years if convicted of same-sex offences.
"If you want to attract a curse to the country, accept homosexuality," Ndayishimiye said in a question and answer session with journalists and the public held in Burundi's east on Friday.
"I even think that these people, if we find them in Burundi, it is better to lead them to a stadium and stone them. And that cannot be a sin," he said, describing homosexuality as imported from the West.
His comments were the latest show of widening intolerance of LGBT people in the region.

That’s actually a majority viewpoint throughout the world. American tolerance is a minority viewpoint.
Probably not because homosexuality is aberrant, it is because of the way many LGBT people act to divide society.
I always thought it was, “Let him who is not stoned commit the first sin.”
Meaning that when it comes to survival it is not a benefit, in fact by removing people from the "get married, reproduce and raise children who are social assets" category and moving them into the "screw everything have lots of medical issues and die young" category it is a long term detriment to the species.
In the west we have lots of people and lots of wealth so a few moving from one category to another is not a major problem although it can become so.
In places that are not as wealthy and not as populated where every person counts it is not something they can afford.
A few years ago there was a social experiment where they had six females and four males and they were going to try to build a society from that. One of the males was sterile and the other two decided that they were gay for each other and girls were icky.
You can see how that would be a problem genetically but it did not do the society any good either. From the cracks that were seen in less than a month it was obvious the social structure was going to break very fast. Probably in less then a year.
