FSU played their third string QB against Georgia. Yes, FSU had many players opt out for the game, but so did Georgia. Georgia is/was the better and far deeper team. They inflicted the worse loss in bowl history, all bowls. Yet we had pundits who said FSU should be in the playoffs even if they had a 3rd string QB.
Georgia won the last two national championships and has been undefeated in SEC regular season play for over two years. A narrow three point loss to Alabama should have not plunged them from number 1 to number 6. Using the eye test Georgia was clearly one of the best four teams in the country.
Yet we had pundits who said FSU should be in the playoffs even if they had a 3rd string QB. The SEC is better than the ACC.
The SEC has almost 100 more players in the NFL than the next closest conference, the Big Ten. Alabama alone has 57 players in the NFL. Georgia is second with 49. Ohio State is 3rd with 48 followed by LSU (43) and Michigan (38). FSU has 16.

The SEC has dominated the national championships since the introduction of the BCS and CFP systems. An SEC team has been in the finals of the CFP every year since 2015. They have won 5 of the last 6 national championships and the last four in a row.

True, but it still was clearly among the best four teams. And they have the best rated recruiting class next year followed by Alabama at number 2.
