The Senate Is Turning More MAGA ― And It Could Boost A 2nd Trump Presidency
Huff Post ^ | 1/1/24 | Igor Bobic

WASHINGTON ― A second Donald Trump presidency could be more unbound thanks to the changing face of the Republican Party, where traditional GOP stalwarts are gradually being replaced with hard-charging MAGA loyalists eager to defend and amplify his tactics.

During his first term in office, Trump squared off with the likes of John McCain, Bob Corker, and Mitt Romney, establishment Republican senators who were often a thorn in his side. Now, many of the lawmakers most likely to push back against his worst instincts are either gone or heading for the exits, and a favorable electoral landscape for the GOP next year could install even more dutiful Trump allies in the upper chamber, who will be more eager to help his promised campaign of revenge than hinder it.

It’s an open question as to how long 81-year-old Mitch McConnell ― the Senate GOP leader who Trump loathes ― will stick around after battling ailments this year. There is growing evidence that his once-dominant influence within the conference is waning amid numerous challenges from a wing of conservative and MAGA-allied senators who are eager to flex their muscles and forge closer ties to the de facto leader of their party.

In 2022, Trump gained several new allies in the Senate who are now enthusiastically backing his 2024 bid. Sen. Ted Budd (R-N.C.) replaced Sen. Richard Burr (R-N.C.), who was one of a handful of Republicans who voted to impeach Trump for inciting the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection, Vance replaced Sen. Rob Portman (R-Ohio), a former George W. Bush administration official, and Sen. Eric Schmitt (R-Mo.) replaced veteran dealmaker Roy Blunt.

What killed the Democrats from 2017-2021 is that Trump had Republican Senate the whole time and could get most of his nominees (executive and judicial) through, and McConnell was pretty much compelled to go along if he wanted to get reelected in 2020 (which he did and then he gave Trump the shaft).

Not a single Republican seat will flip this year. They're all in safe states. Scott (FL), Hawley, Wicker, Cramer, Fischer, Ricketts, Blackburn, Cruz and Barrasso will be reelected. And Braun and Romney will be replaced by Republicans.

Add those not up for reelection, that's 49 Republicans.

Manchin retired, so WV will go Republican, so that's 50.

So we have a running start to a majority.

Seats in Ohio and Montana will likely flip, that's 52.

Nevada, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Nevada are also possibilities.

I'm predicting a 53 or 54 seat majority.

Companion article, about 10 seats most likely to flip. They’re dreaming about Cruz and Scott.

Otherwise, 8 Democrats could lose their seats.

‘Republicans’ didn’t help Trump when it mattered, why would they help him now? They had SO many opportunities to demonstrate solidarity and DIDN’T!!

They would more likely be an impediment, like always!

“‘Republicans’ didn’t help Trump when it mattered, why would they help him now?”

Basically - politics. Senators are finger in the wind types. And they want to get reelected. The people haven’t abandoned Trump despite everything thrown at him, including TWO Senate impeachment trials. And only THREE of the seven Senators that voted to convict are still around.

Senators will be compelled to help or they’ll be out on the street, with their precious power and influence gone.

Nevada is East California. All the refugees from LA go to LV and from SF they go to Reno.

And then vote exactly the way they did in California. They never learn.

Laxalt actually won, Rosen had the election stolen for her, but that’s the end of it. The American moment is over in Nevada. Will be nuthin but sleazeoid Rats from now on.

Are Deep State’s minions getting cold feet?

Could this be why Bubba has been thrown under the bus?

Is Deep State threatening anyone who thinks to cross them?

“Gee, the Democrats were killed?

What I mean is, they were powerless to prevent Trump from getting his nominees through. They used their slow-walk tactics, but that’s about it. 54 Circuit judges and 3 Supreme Court justices can attest to that.

By the same token, Schumer has been confirming Democrat judges just as fast, for the same reason: while you have power, use it.

They expected to take back the Senate in 2018, and used their campaign against Kavanaugh for all it was worth. But they LOST four incumbents, AND John McCain died.

They will be well taken care of (i.e., rewarded) with lucrative appointments to cushy jobs on corporate boards and such.

“Senators will be compelled to help or they'll be out on the street, with their precious power and influence gone.”

That's hard to believe. We have been betrayed, cheated and exploited WAY too many times, by both parties. ‘Times’ when all it would have taken was for ONE honest, uncompromising man to have opened his mouth to say, ‘Enough...hold on there!!!’!!

“A pox on both your houses!”

Nevada was better off when the state was run by a tacit agreement between the Mafia in Las Vegas and the Mormon ranchers in the northern rural areas.

Before the American Left can be effectively opposed, the GOP has to be destroyed.

No need to destroy the GOP... they have made themselves irrelevant ....they are a dead letter for any authentic Conservative

They continue to exist only as a another layer of the Liberal, money laundering apparatus. No honest politician of any persuasion ought to be associated with the GOP. And no honest American voter should be confused about that
