Trenton Mayor: We Can’t Handle Migrants, But We ‘Encourage’ Them to Work with Police by Being a Sanctuary

On Friday’s broadcast of the Fox Business Network’s “Cavuto: Coast to Coast,” Trenton, NJ Mayor Reed Gusciora said that the city doesn’t have the resources to deal with migrants, but responded to a question on whether he thinks New Jersey being a sanctuary state is a good idea by stating that “sanctuary state or city means different things to different folks.” And that Trenton encourages “migrants who live in the capital city to cooperate with police. And that’s how I see a sanctuary city forming.”

True.

The police are not allowed to confront and request ID or any other information from someone in a sanctuary city because this might cause the “immigrant” legal problems. Can’t even say “You’re Mr.———— the one we set up to be deported” as cases such as leading up to July 1, 2015 when 32-year-old Kathryn “Kate” Steinle was shot and killed while walking with her father and a friend along Pier 14 in the Embarcadero district of San Francisco. She was hit in the back by a single bullet, said to be from a ricochet. The man who fired the gun, José Inez García Zárate was an illegal immigrant who had been deported 5 times previously.

On November 30, 2017, after five days of deliberations, a jury acquitted García Zárate of all murder and manslaughter charges, and federal manslaughter and assault charges were dropped due to lack of evidence. He was convicted of being a felon in possession of a firearm, but that conviction was overturned on appeal on August 30, 2019.
