That sentiment if correctly interpreted to specifically mean the protestors were not patriots should pretty much end his political campaign. It’s too bad he fell for trying to talk out of both sides of his mouth.

Why would he say this?

He could have said something like some in the crowd, we are not sure what political agenda they supported, regardless of what costumes they were wearing, committed crimes.

My guess is some political consultants told him what to say, or maybe he wasn't thinking. I read some DeSantis statements he made a day later that sounded saner.
