Claudine Gay and the Cheating Crisis on Campus
WSJ ^ | Jan. 7, 2024 | Allysia Finley

Academic dishonesty and crime are alike:

...

When my peers are found responsible for multiple instances of inadequate citation, they are often suspended for an academic year,” wrote the student who sits on Harvard’s honor council.. When the president of their university is found responsible for the same types of infractions, the fellows of the Corporation ‘unanimously stand in support of’ her

...

Gay’s plagiarism, the Harvard Corp. showed that its commitment to academic integrity was as phony as its other ideals.

...

serious academic-integrity offenses, are too often ignored or excused—much like petty crimes in cities with left-wing governments. The result: declining standards and increasing dishonesty on college campuses.

...

Harvard Crimson survey... about half their classmates had cheated

...

Consider the student uproar last year at Stanford over a proposal by faculty to change the college’s 1921 honor code to permit instructors to proctor exams. Under the college’s honor code, students are supposed to report on misconduct by peers, but instructors aren’t allowed to supervise exams. Teaching assistants hand out tests and then leave.

...

professors of introductory STEM courses say some students may feel increased pressure to cheat because they lack precalculus skills. Could it be that Stanford is admitting unprepared students to meet its diversity goals, which makes it more difficult for them to succeed in STEM courses?

...

Much as the retreat from “broken windows” policing has produced more crime in progressive cities, colleges’ failure to enforce academic-integrity standards has created an air of impunity among students that is leading to more bad behavior, including harassment of Jewish students. Is it any surprise so many students graduate lacking a moral compass?

Now with AI it’s simple to check the thesis’s of all these people as well as whatever academic papers they’ve put out. My hunch is that she’s far from the only one guilty of this. Actually I expect it’s rampant in the social sciences especially. Check ‘em all out and get rid of them.

Were it not for Elon Musk taking over Twitter all this rot in education would have gone on turning the USA to a Third World ...

It is also true that the DEI folks will stop at nothing to cling to the institutions they have captured.

What they are doing to Elon Musk and Bill Ackman now is what they do behind closed doors in class rooms, board rooms, on campuses, in medical rooms to vulnerable students and professionals who speak up. They threaten to ruin people by ...

Jon Rapaport (old time network news guy turned conservative blogger type) claims he ghost-wrote the phony research papers for Gay. He claims they were friends.

I don’t know if he was being satirical or serious.

FYI.

When the president of your institution is shown to be an out-and-out academic fraud, what are the undergraduate and graduate students to think regarding the integrity and academic rigor of said institution?

Every student at Harvard should turn in the same work at the end of this semester.

Bill Ackman is cranking up his AI-powered plagiarism detector as we speak. All hell is about to break loose on academia.

Every student at Harvard should turn in the same work at the end of this semester.

Wouldn't that be a kicker.

Expose their hypocrisy and double standards for the whole world to see.

“When the president of your institution is shown to be an out-and-out academic fraud, what are the undergraduate and graduate students to think regarding the integrity and academic rigor of said institution?”

Given that Biden is president, I suppose they should see it as a ticket to the top.

Back in the ‘70s the standard for many colleges was mandatory expulsion for plagiarism.

But our country’s ethics have been seriously eroded.

I have heard from professor colleagues for at least 20 years that cheating including plagiarism, is entrenched, acknowledged and tolerated by the academic world. Some professors use available software to detect plagiarism, but there is no incentive to take serious action. Administrators like the Gay woman only would use it against you.
