Controversial research group linked to Wuhan discovers never-before-seen virus in bats in Thailand with 'almost' as much potential as Covid to infect humans

A zoologist whose organisation funded controversial experiments in Wuhan which some fear started the pandemic has presented the discovery of a never-before-seen virus with 'almost' as much potential to infect humans as Covid.

Dr Peter Daszak, head of the New York based non-profit EcoHealth Alliance, detailed his finding in bats at an event held by the World Health Organization (WHO) on future pandemic research preparedness.

EcoHealth had its funding pulled and projects to find viruses in China cancelled due to concerns about its ties to the Covid lab leak theory — but it has continued to operate in Thailand and other parts of Asia with millions of dollars in US government grants.

“...the discovery of a never-before-seen virus”

Never-before-seen because it is newly created and recently released? Just in time for the 2024 US election.

Dr Peter Daszak needs a Nuremberg Trial

I would dispense with the "trial" portion of it and go straight to the execution of sentence.

I recall hearing Daszak speak back in 2020, and after a couple of minutes it was clear that the man was batsh*t crazy. Quite literally insane.

They simply put COVID-19 into that bat population, and it evolved in two years.

It's surely just an effort to hide Wuhan as the original source. Remember, a bat had sex with a pangolin, as we are told.

Why is there a need to find viruses, unless to weaponize them?

Why on earth is research performed in order to identify human health threats “controversial”?

Zoonotic (of animal origin) viruses and other pathogens are huge human health threats. The more we learn about them, the better prepared we are to fight them.

Look at human history before scientists learned about germs and disease transmission. Life spans were short, and there was little to do in the event of an outbreak. Many infectious diseases which have afflicted humans came from animals. Measles, for example, is thought to have come from rinderpest, a cattle disease. Influenza, plague, rabies, and HIV all originated in animals.

Nowadays, we can study wildlife and determine whether pathogens in that wildlife have a potential to infect humans. Knowing that a virus circulating in animals in Thailand is a potential human pathogen is a first step in (hopefully) preventing its jump into humans. The more we know, the more able we are to mitigate human health threats.

Or, maybe we should stop all research and then be taken completely by surprise the next time a pandemic capable pathogen jumps into humans? How many people would die if we went back to the days of ignorance and superstition that existed before the scientific method was developed?

Last scene in “Contagion (2011)”, from Wiki:

“ In a flashback to the spillover event, a bulldozer from Emhoff’s company clears rainforest in China, disturbing bats. One bat finds shelter in a pig farm and drops an infected piece of banana that is then consumed by a pig. The pig is then slaughtered and is prepared by a chef in a Macau casino, who, without washing his hands, transmits the virus to Beth via a handshake.”
