Washington State Dems propose bill to classify ammo as a ‘privilege’ in order to tax it

Democrats in the Washington State legislature began this year’s session by targeting gun rights by attempting to classify ammunition as a “privilege” to subject it to a tax.

House Bill 2238, which is sponsored by Democratic State Reps My-Linh Thai and Liz Berry imposes an 11 percent sales and use tax on ammunition in Washington on top of sales, local, state, and federal taxes in an attempt to reduce "gun violence."

Berry previously worked for former US Representative Gabby Giffords as her Legislative Director when the congresswoman was shot in 2011.

Instead of having the right to purchase ammunition, Democrats are attempting to classify it as a “privilege.”

According to the proposed legislation, “A use tax is levied on every person in this state for the privilege of using ammunition as a consumer at the rate of 11 percent of the selling price.”

Despite their best efforts, gun sales have increased thanks to Democratic legislation.

Democrats previously banned high-capacity magazines and “assault weapons” which led to a spike in purchases in advance of the ban.

Additionally, Democrats have driven up demand by softening punishment for criminals which led to record crime, causing a sharp rise in first-time gun ownership.

In Seattle, following Democratic politicians defunding the police, appointing activist judges, and not prosecuting crimes, homicides in 2023 broke the all-time high record set in 1994. Seattle previously established a per-round tax.

Last year, Democratic State Rep. Tarra Simmons, a convicted felon, attempted to pass a bill that would have reduced charges against drive-by shooters and would have released convicts serving time for the offenses.

Democratic State Rep. Roger Goodman is attempting to pass HB 1268 which would prevent judges from adding prison time to felons that use firearms to commit crimes and offers the potential of early release to convicts in prison on firearm enhancements.

Simmons is also back again this session with new legislation, attempting to give judges clemency powers so they could unilaterally decide to reduce sentences for violent offenders years later, even if the facts of a case have not changed.

They’ll concede that a gun is a “right” but then tell you that the ammo is a “privilege.”

The state’s “driving is a privilege” scam can be extended to anything not specified in the Constitution.

There, fixed it.

My-Linh Thai was born in Vietnam and raised by her grandparents on the Mekong Delta. She immigrated to the United States in 1983 as a war refugee and reunited with several family members who had fled earlier.

You'd think she'd understand how communists work....well, perhaps she really does.

If a privilege then it can be taken away and no one gets ammo.

Yes exactly. They are trying to redefine the constitution, to change a constitutional right into a privilege. They are domestic enemies as far as I’m concerned and the military should take them into custody.

Lots of the Vietnamese “refugees” had no issue with the Communists. They were family in many cases.

The woman was raised under Communism. She has no real complaints, and was only an economic “refugee” when she came to the US eight years after the fall of Saigon.

Living in the Santa Clara Valley you can meet many of these people. It becomes clear very quickly that the VC are not considered the bad guys to them.

While the use of the word ‘privilege’ is worrisome, the fact is that there has been an 11% ‘excise’ tax on guns and ammo since 1937, the Pittmann-Robertson Act. The money raised is supposed to fund conservation.

Oh, the air that I breath.... I think they think God is Dead, that man has no natural born rights in these here United States of the American dream.

“Shall not Infringe”.

Well, gas for home stoves, gas for cars, gas for heating, coal for heating and the plastics which clothe the world are already taxed.... Cigerattes are taxed. Car tags are taxed.
What is a privilege is to hold elected office to represent your citizens. It is not privilege to screw those you represent by finding ways to control everyone, that’s the reason we used to vote... to vote and elect representatives to serve and not dictators.

Citizens vote and elect representatives to serve and not dictators.

Elect representatives to Serve

do not vote to elect dictators, elect representatives to serve.

Trump needs to make his election a nation-wide Write In Ballot Vote in Person campaign.

The people of this nation need to reject the Dominion Voting Machines.

The Trump Organization should train and distribute Legal Ballots for the purpose of ID Verification while IN-Person Voting Writing Trump’s name on the Ballot for President.

The Trump Campaign needs a slogan or two:

Vote in person, show your ID (wheter they want to see it or not) then making a write in vote for Trump for president.

Write your representatives by a Write In Trump’s Name on the Ballot.

Send a strong message to the world you will do your individual part to write Trump’s Name on the Ballot for president.

Make the Dollar Great Again.

Great information - your comment and research reminds of FR in 90s. People brought foundational evidence/information and ideas to the forum.

FR needs a “Comment of the Day” Wall of Heros.

I nominate you starting Today.

MLots of the Vietnamese “refugees” had no issue with the Communists. They were family in many cases.

Buddy of mine's wife became a naturalized citizen several years ago.

While we were at the swearing in ceremony there was a lady from Vietnam.

We asked her about her thoughts in immigration.

Wow....did she go off on bammy. Said he was bringing in what she'd gotten away from in Nam.

Now, contrast what I saw during the actual ceremony. A baby momma from south america wasn't paying attention during the citizenship oath. It meant nothing to her.

Contrast that with a guy from Nigeria who was moved to tears after the ceremony. I went to shake his hand and his statement was this:

I am just like you now...I am an American.

He understood the significance of the moment.
