As one who has lived 45+ years in Upstate New York, I've seen my share of ice storms. Thickness of ice doesn't matter; it's the surface that is slick. 1/10" of ice is enough to cause a car with regular tires to fly right off into a ditch, even at low driving speeds.

You folks don't happen to have studded snow tires on your vehicles, by any chance, do you?

Didn't think so. Be real darn careful.

I used to drive on snow a lot, but it has been many years since I last did so. I know enough to stay off the roads now.
