The Aunt Teefuses have been pretty quiet. Maybe they’ve gone underground in their ghillie suits.

From USGS Website:

Does Portland, Oregon have a volcano within its metropolitan area?
The town of Portland, Oregon does have most of a Pliocene-Pleistocene volcanic field within its metropolitan boundaries. The Boring Volcanic Field consists of more than 80 cinder cones and small shield volcanoes. The youngest volcano (Beacon Rock) in the Volcanic Field erupted about 57,000 years ago.

Since activity began in this area 2.6 million years ago, it is rare for 50,000 years to pass without an eruption. However, all existing Boring Volcanic centers are extinct and the probability of an eruption in the Portland/Vancouver metro area is very low.

A panoramic view of the location and a lat/lon coordinate would be helpful.

Dreaming of a day when Kalifornia tumbles into the sea...as once anticipated by Steeley Dan.

And it wouldn't break my heart if Oregon and Washing were to follow.

Is it inside of city limits??? I don’t know.
I believe it’s called Mt Tabor, part of the Pacific Rim Volcanic line-up. It’s supposed to be extinct.
Key word: supposed.

Unless there are underground steam pipes... like NYC? Or an underground coal fire? Like a town we have in PA.

Their sewer crew found the issue came from a private property between a couple apartment complexes which use steam heat.

Not a volano.

A geologist/volcanologist on television right after the Mt. St. Helens eruption:

There is no such thing as an ‘extinct’ volcano............

Part of downtown Boise, including the Capitol building, is steam heated by geothermal energy.

...A resident of one apartment complex told a member of PBOT’s sewer crew that property management has been aware of the issue and it had been going on for six months or longer...

6 months or longer?!

How is this not a public safety and/or infrastructure concern?!

And not just with that building. I'd have someone take a good look under that asphalt.

Years ago while in New Zealand we went to a town called Rotorua. It has volcanic steam vents all over the place and the smell of rotten eggs is powerful. Everywhere you look you see a buildup of sulfur crust on the vents they have set up. A truly amazing experience. But the upside is that they don't have to pay for heat...all the houses are hooked up to the volcanic steam.

New Zealand...volcanic. Japan...volcanic. Alaska...volcanic. West Coast of North America...volcanic.
