Taoiseach Leo Varadkar has said that Ireland’s policy on China and Taiwan has not changed, despite reports in Chinese state media following his meeting in Dublin with Chinese premier Li Qiang.

Earlier, CGTN quoted Mr. Varadkar as saying that Ireland “will always abide by the one-China principle, and hopes that China will achieve peaceful reunification at an early date”.

However, Mr. Varadkar said Ireland supported the One China “policy” on Taiwan, which is distinct from the One China “principle”.

He said: “I reaffirmed our policy, which is the One China policy, that we recognize that Taiwan is part of China. And while we don’t have diplomatic or political links with Taiwan, we continue to have economic and cultural links.” …

Ireland has enough domestic issues. It should not care about China.

Ireland’s already ruled from outside as it is. The guy who is currently serving as deputy PM said two years ago that “we have no interest in a backward-looking idea of sovereignty”, basically dumping his human waste on those who died fighting for independence.

Most of this “diplomatic” gesture is about selling beef to Red China after the last BSE scare (also to meet “climate goals” by reducing domestic bovine flatulence), and selling junky BYD electric cars in Ireland.

I just don’t get the repetitive self destructive behaviors.
It leads to negative outcomes every single time.

I guess people are just being bought off, and they disseminate lies downstream.

Well idiot Irishman (I can say that because 99.9 present Irish) I to support the One China policy, when China wants to abandon communism and join the free world they should be welcome to join Taiwan.

Well, you got Varadkar beat (50% Irish, 50% Indian) on that score.

As for what Varadkar really represents, the European Union’s treaties, which serve as their constitution, have “respect for the principles of the United Nations charter” above all—and that charter was based on the USSR’s 1936 constitution.
