Former Democratic Cleveland mayor, congressman and longshot presidential candidate Dennis Kucinich filed paperwork at the Federal Election Commission on Wednesday that indicates he’s running as an independent for the congressional seat held by Rocky River Republican Rep. Max Miller.

Kucinich has previously run for office as a Democrat. He missed the December deadline to run in the Democratic primary for the seat that encompasses western and southern Cuyahoga County, Medina and Wayne counties, and northern Holmes County, but the filing deadline for independents to seek the seat isn’t until March.

Probably needs to top up his retirement accounts with some good old-fashioned inside trading tips

I predict he comes up short.

Cook calls it an R+7 district but it's probably not quite that far to the right, maybe more like R+5. That's hardly 100% safe and under the right circumstances it's lose-able for the GOP.

Kucinich isn't the "right circumstances" though, barring a significant upset.

Max Miller is a freshman and therefore somewhat vulnerable, and he is a moderate/squish just like his predecessor, Anthony Gonzalez.

Ohio Congressional District 7 demographics and election results

Click on Max Miller's name, or Anthony Gonzalez's, to see just how squishy they are/were. I don't know whether Miller is as much of a Trump-hater as Gonzo was. Pretty sure Miller campaigned as a "conservative" in 2022, which he quite clearly is not.

Miller played up his Trump association big time. His voting record to date indicates one of those Republicans who will “evolve”.

Dennis Kucinich! Now there’s a blast from the past. I guess the big box store greeter’s job wasn’t working out.

Isn’t he that little sawed-off sucker who married a tall Amazon-like woman?

His nickname was Dennis the Menace.

I think that was from his incompetence. He may be more honest than most Democrat politicians.

He will win in that vicinity. He is well-known, and he can speak eloquently out of both sides of his mouth.

“He will win in that vicinity.”

Not bloody likely.

In case it’s escaped people’s notice he’s not even running as a Democrat (the filing deadline was a month ago) and instead will be an Independent if he is on the ballot at all.

He’s likely to have little to no money to work with, and all his name recognition is going to get him is some laughs (voters laughing at him, I mean).

Kucinich can’t win but what he CAN try to accomplish is to trick some idiot Republican voters into voting for him, like Libertarian candidates so often do. Try to peel off just enough to hand the election to the Democrat.

Even though the district is in no way rock-solid Republican, this ploy is 98% certain to fail in November.

IF he isn’t aware enough to file before deadline-—then he isn’t aware enough to hold ANY seat in Congress

I guess Dennis has too much time on his hands, needed something to do. This district is pretty handily republican. IDK who he thinks his possible target audience is.

This guy was a goofy, liberal moron in the 1970s when I was growing up in Cleveland. He made Lou Stokes look competent (and sober). He is yet another reason that sons of the Cuyahoga continue to have to live down the punch line status of our hometown from that era.
