Feds seek 5-year prison term for IRS contractor who leaked Trump's tax records

Federal prosecutors are asking a judge to sentence a former IRS contractor to five years in prison for leaking the tax records of former President Donald Trump and other wealthy Americans to the media.

In court papers Tuesday, prosecutors urged the judge to impose the statutory maximum of five years in prison for Charles Littlejohn of Washington, D.C., after he pleaded guilty in October to one count of disclosing tax return information without authorization. Littlejohn also admitted to leaking tax records belonging to “over a thousand” other wealthy people.

In a plea agreement last year, government attorneys estimated eight to 14 months’ imprisonment based on federal sentencing guidelines, with both parties reserving the right to seek a deviation from those guidelines, prosecutor Jonathan Jacobson said in Tuesday’s filing.

But he also called the sentencing range “flatly inconsistent with the gravity of the offense."

“The scope and scale of Defendant’s unlawful disclosures appear to be unparalleled in the IRS’s history,” Jacobson contended. “There simply is no precedent for a case involving the disclosure of tax return and return information associated with ‘over a thousand’ individuals and entities.”

In 2020, The New York Times published a report saying that it had obtained more than two decades of Trump’s tax information and that he had paid only $750 in federal income taxes in 2016 and 2017. The following year, ProPublica published reporting on the taxes of wealthy people.

“Prosecute the media outlets that ran with this obvious illegal information.”

That’s not how it works. Look up the Pentagon Papers case.

“They are trying to put the toothpaste back in the tube, they are panicked with the populist movement “

Like the panel on CNN that was played before War Room today. Everyone has to be nicer to MAGA. Stop with “Deplorable”, etc. I was shocked.

"Then why isn’t Littlejohn being sentenced on over one thousand counts of breaking this law?"

Because we have a two-tier justice system and Republicans aren't calling out the Department of Justice for their failure to fully prosecute.

BUT, the Feds are warning any possible anti-Deep State leakers that they will get hammered by seeking “the maximum.”

No one did anything illegal but the leaker.

It should be no different that trading on illegal insider information, both the leaker and the user of the info are corrupt.

He might get 5 years, but he won't be imprisoned for 5 years.

“Corrupt” isn’t a crime.

And no, this in no way is equivalent to insider trading, which requires the guilty party to use the inside information for private gain. In this case the information was publicly disseminated.

Sure, I want this guy prosecuted. 5 years is not enough, because it was more than just revealing private tax data, it was to embarrass Trump and interfere with an election.

However, be assured that if a PRO-TRUMP IRS employee does a similar act, the Feds will seek much more time in jail.

He deserves much more. But something tells me that the corrupt DOJ isn’t doing this for Trump; they’re doing it to protect this corrupt Biden Regime in the future.

The lawless newsers who distribute “news” know very well that personal Federal tax records are not news, but are rather an unauthorized and illegal posession and distribution of personal Federal tax documents, which is criminal. Acting as a syndicate to accept and distribute federal and personal records is no different than distributing Fentenol and they should all be in prison.

To save the Constitution and defend the United States and the balance of governmental powers, as in the case of Assange and the other Intelligence whistleblower at NIC is another matter. Imo. ☺️

Clearly the tax returns WERE newsworthy or we wouldn’t be talking about them. I’d love to see Hunter Biden’s tax returns whether or not they are legally produced. Wouldn’t you?

For the umpteenth time, the criminal liability is on the leaker, not on the news medium.

I’ll believe that the feds know the meaning of “justice” when this man is in prison for 20 years.
