The American dream is 'rapidly diminishing,' Walgreens boss says in plea to raise taxes for the wealthy

The Walgreens exec John Driscoll asked global lawmakers to tax millionaires like himself more. As it stands, the American dream is in danger of extinction, Driscoll said. Driscoll joined over 250 billionaires and millionaires in supporting the Proud to Pay More campaign. A business tycoon is taking an unexpected stance on taxes.

Walgreens Boots Alliance's executive vice president, John Driscoll, wrote a letter asking lawmakers in the US and abroad to tax the wealthy more. Driscoll echoed the pleas of entrepreneurs, an heir, and activists in his demand to save the "rapidly diminishing" American dream.

As the grandchild of Irish immigrants, Driscoll labeled himself a beneficiary of the American dream — the concept that anyone in the US can achieve success and prosperity by working hard. The exec signed an open letter from the Proud to Pay More campaign addressing the leaders gathered at Davos 2024, an annual meeting held in Switzerland that's attended by CEOs, government officials, business elites, and members of the media.

Giving more money to a corrupt government doesn’t solve that problem, buddy.

I agree with you. IMHO that is just feeding the problem.

Bears repeating. That money will only help government, not the people.

Let’s become Britain of the 1970s!

Declining empire, socialist ideologue leaders, bloated government, high inflation - and confiscatory taxes

The reason the American Dream is hurtling toward extinction is not people, any people, pay too little in taxes.

Another wealthy miron. We seem to be cursed with them.

There is nothing to prevent them from paying more themselves. The issue I have is that they will NOT pay more (all fluff and rhetoric) but support the government in demanding more from the rest of us.

Write a large check to the Government if you want and kept your redistribution and communist policies to yourself. Punitive taxes on the “wealthy” are counterproductive to the economy and only serve to keep hard working aspiring people from becoming reaping the rewards of hard work. Meanwhile, back on the billionaire ranches where they own the politicians you can bet your last dollar they will not be paying anyway.

Therefore, punitive taxes only serve to prevent new people from becoming wealthy and assist in keeping more people poor.

His Walgreens stores need to be robbed and cleaned out more. Then this clown won’t have to worry about being too wealthy. A Walgreens was just closed down in Roxbury Mass due to theft. Though now that locals are complaining about this.

BTW his billionaire’s (give my money away to idiot charities) declaration was signed at the Davos-WEF meeting.

Proud to pay more. From attending WEF Davos 2024 Bacchanalia Vacay where all the airstrips were choked with G5s and the local prostitutes all booked up.

DOH! Pretty sure raising the taxes on ALL THOSE UBER WEALTHY likely wouldn’t make much of a dent. And, just who decides who those needing more taxing are................

Every time they “raise taxes on the wealthy” it ends up biting the middle class, while the rich just get richer.

What a Damned Joke!

UNTIL these 250 billionaires and millionaires who supposedly SUPPORT the Proud to Pay More campaign actually PAY MORE or as I would suggest, GIVE UP ALL THEIR WEALTH AND MONEY NOW, they can just ESAD.

Must make them them feel all warm and fuzzy inside knowing FULL WELL that they are ALL fat and wealthy with all their comforts saying they “want” to pay more KNOWING FULL WELL that paying more will never happen. They already have the future tax loopholes lined up.

If you live in a crappy community that has a Walgreens. Just walk in and take stuff NOW for reparations. They do this in NY and SF and other places. Don’t depend on “Walgreens exec John Driscoll” bull-crap that he will give his millions away.

The unwashed never do realize where the money that the wealthy have comes from, so they never see the connection between raising taxes and fees on the wealthy, and their own costs of living going up, endlessly.

The politicians are acutely aware of the connection, and that is why they "only" raise taxes on the rich.

This way, politicians get the money, and deflect the blame.
