The ‘gods’ of science caused it.. President Trump followed the ‘science’.. he would have been impeached and convicted if he had ignored the ‘gods’!
But the small minded will be the last to literally describe what took place..
How many Americans (including those here on FR) shrieked that Trump wasn’t doing enough when his initial response was to treat Covid akin to a slightly deadlier flu?
(And in terms of the governors who actually had the authority to mandate masks and set lockdown policy, the only one who didn’t was Kristi Noem of South Dakota.)
Responding to the reality of a pandemic has nothing to do with his economic record. The meltdown that would have occurred from more people getting sick would have brought the economy down just as much with many more people dead.
Could things have been done differently in hindsight? Sure. We don’t get the luxury of future hindsight when decisions have to be made in the then-present. He was also dealt the blow of having the nation’s emergency pandemic supplies for health care providers completely depleted by Obama/Biden and never replenished - of course he took the blame for that and Obama/Biden got off scot free in the media.
