Yes. Communism is there.
I’ve seen that up close and personal, when I lived in NM many years ago.
Liberation Theology folks came from Nicaragua to where I lived during the Regan re-election era.
I actually met Contra Suporters who were from Costa Rica but supporting Contras in Nicaragua. The opposition (to the Contras) were Maryknoll nuns They were collecting money for the poor in Nicaragua but also spewing the Liberation Theology poison. Close friend of mine was in one of their meetings, she was Catholic. She was not impressed but had already given them a check when she discovered what they were.
Liberation Theology is Marxism in a thin religious wrapper.
“Religious socialism, Christian socialism, are contradictory terms,” stated Pope Pius XI in Quadragesimo Anno; “no one can be at the same time a good Catholic and a true socialist.”
Unfortunately, the Maryknoll’s went completely off the rails and embraced liberation theology (a/k/a atheistic social justice).
