Doomsday Cult Puzzled that the Earth Still Exists
The View From North Central Idaho ^ | Joe Huffman

Quote of the Day

"The laws of thermodynamics dictate that a warmer atmosphere can hold more water vapor, but new research has found that atmospheric moisture has not increased as expected over arid and semi-arid regions of the world as the climate has warmed."

"The findings are particularly puzzling because climate models have been predicting that the atmosphere will become more moist, even over dry regions. If the atmosphere is drier than anticipated, arid and semi-arid regions may be even more vulnerable to future wildfires and extreme heat than projected."

After about the third paragraph I was laughing the rest of the way through the article.

There is no hint they would ever consider the possibility their climate heating models are flawed or that the mean global temperature is not increasing. It is like a doomsday cult predicting the end of the world on January 1, 2000 and when it doesn’t happen they don’t question the integrity of their prophet, but instead claim the destroyer gave them a second chance.

Read When Prophecy Fails: A Doomsday Cult on Alien Invasion for more insight on the behavior and psychology of these type of people. You might expect they would forsake their prophet when confronted with irrefutable evidence of the failure of the prophecies. But that is not what happens. Instead, most of the time, they will prophesize all the more vigorously.

I find the psychology absolutely fascinating.

And, of course, the same psychology exists within the gun grabber community.

That book he references: When Prophecy Fails: A Doomsday Cult on Alien Invasion should indeed make interesting reading.

Climate models never work because they are fed data filtered to produce a desired result, rather than unfiltered data.

Such models will always fail because overall climate is unpredictable.

Yet I am sure that climate models have been predicting that the atmosphere will become more dry , even over moist areas.

The algorithm seems to be designed so that anything may support the premise of catastrophic climate change. Or that, "anything that could support the premise of catastrophic climate change, will be."

Yes, or the same thing with that flat earther documentary when they purchased an expensive laser instrument to confirm there was no curvature to the earth and it instead confirmed the curvature. Faced with cognitive dissonance about your most dearly held preconceptions, the average person, even intelligent ones, will spontaneously generate 100 different ridiculous rationalizations to preserve their worldview instead of accepting the obvious.

It is in effect a study in mass response to severe cognitive dissonance.

Very close, my good FRiend.

Climate models have way too many variables to yield an accurate result within reasonable error bands.

The folks who design and run these models make biased assumptions for many variables, and the assumptions drive the desired result.

Not my guessing, btw, I happened to be seated next to (an honest) climate expert on a commercial flight a few years back. I learned much.

That’s because they know neither physics nor meteorology.
