Ron DeSantis is seeking an 'off-ramp' from his 2024 campaign, according to reports, following a disappointing performance in Iowa - buoyed by the promise from Trump supporters to back him in 2028.
Speaking on Tuesday in South Carolina, DeSantis said that Trump voters in Iowa had told him they would support him in four years.
'They were coming up to me saying, "We want you in 2028, we love you, man," he said.
He told a similar story on NBC News.
Andrew Romeo, the DeSantis campaign's communications director, said DeSantis was in the race 'for the long haul,' through South Carolina and beyond.

And if he’s so feckless that he was swayed by the Sirens’ song of money and power promised by the GOP elite, he has no business EVER being POTUS in the future.
Meatball right now must kiss Trump's ring, then White Boots can help convince one of Florida's sitting Senators to take Trump's offer of Attorney General (Rick Scott -- I'd prefer Cruz -- but frankly it could be Cruz for a honeymoon year, then Scott) or SCOTUS (again, Cruz, but possibly Rubio). As Senator Meatball, he would be in a position to offer Youngkin a VP or at least sweeping the floors in the West Wing....
Really, though, as long as Madame Dufarge is calling the shots, Ron will probably have to take a job on the Disney Board of Directors to pay his post-goobernatorial bills from this disaster.

If DeSantis had endorsed Trump and continued to be a successful Governor, there would have been tremendous Party and Base pressure for DeSantis as VP.
He threw that away for donor money, and consultant lies and promises.

I don't know who he's talking to, but this Trump supporter would never vote for him. He's already shown me that he's not Presidential material. If I'm still alive in 2028, I'll be writing Trump in on the ballot.

It’s quite the opposite in reality. DeSantis is running his record as an authentic conservative and that is why he is hated by populists who long ago surrendered their ideological foundations.
He and Haley should have both been a united front with front pointing out the absolute rot and corruption that fester in DC and also been nonstop bringing up the lawfare the Biden administration is exercising against normal Americans.

1) Charlie "Limp Wristed" Crist, a graduate of one of the lower 30-tier law schools, and after taking three attempts to pass the bar, was defeated as GOP State Senate candidate in 1986, losing in a runoff.In other words, Ron beat Crist The Tomato Can, Florida's perennial toe-tapping, down-low, also-ran man.2) In 1992, Crist won as a GOP State Senate candidate in the Florida 20th.
3) In 1998, Crist lost as the GOP sacrifice to Florida Senator Bob Graham, losing by 26 points.
4) In 2008, Crist endorsed McCrisis and supported Florida moving their primary to January (lol).
5) In 2010, Crist left the GOP. He ran against Foam Boy for the Senate seat as an unaffliated candidate, losing to Rubio by nearly 20 points.
6) In 2012, Crist endorsed Obama.
7) In 2014, Rick Scott beat Crist for Governor of Florida, and as wiki notes: "Crist holds the rare distinction of losing a statewide general election in Florida as a Republican, a Democrat and an Independent"
8) Aug. 2022, Crist resigned from Congress.
I remember the moment. He was in the right place with Ukraine. Then he met the GOPe a-holes and came out sounding like Linda Graham. It was the beginning of the downward whirlpool that got worse every month.
The only reason he won his first term, and it was by the skin of his teeth, was because President Trump endorsed him before he'd even announced he was running for Governor.
The guy is an arrogant prig who lied to the people of Florida when he said he would finish out his full second term. What he didn't tell them was that he'd be taking at least an 8+ months paid vacation while he ran off to run for President. And on top of it, instead of resigning to run based on the law in place at the time, he had the State Legislature change the law, so he'd still get a taxpayer-funded paycheck while he was on that extended vacation.
DeSantis himself didn't think he'd have a chance of winning, or he wouldn't have taken the extra step to have the law changed to suit his needs. He'll be back in his office one of these days, but he's going to stretch it out for as long as he can, and why shouldn't he? He's forced Floridians to foot the bill for his family vacation.
Hopefully I'll be dead by 2028.

As a Floridian, who was pleased with Ron DeSantis as our Governor, I am now among the group who would say that DeSantis has burned too many bridges with his supporters to expect us to rally behind a 2028 Presidential Race.
Not if Trump didn't want him, there wouldn't have been. I's already been proven, that Trump can turn them against DeSantis, has it not? And Trump has never wanted him, from all appearances.
Instead, Trump has shown he wants to run to the left, and try to beat Biden by taking some of Biden's votes away, not by locking down conservatives on the far right, who DeSantis represents.
The names associated with Trump, by Trump's own surrogates, no less, are Haley, Stefanik, Zeldin, and Gabbard. They know which way he is heading, and it isn't to the right.
Why should Trump support a GOP nominee who is a POS? I won't ever again hold my nose to vote for a GOP candidate I know isn't good for America, and is going to stab me in the back down the road. I'd rather sit home on Election Day, rather than continue the bad habit of supplying Rinos to an already severely infected Congress.
It's in July. Dems is in August. And why the Republicans are holding their convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin is beyond me.
