Oakland to revive operation ceasefire program amid violent crime

Community members, religious leaders, and formally incarcerated individuals gathered on the steps of Oakland City Hall Friday, calling for more programs to address and prevent violence in the city.

The push comes after an audit this week found the dismantling of “operation ceasefire,” a key violence intervention program, resulted in a spike in crime in the city over the past few years.

“The lives that people going to prison, people going to jail. It could’ve been prevented,” said Oakland resident Robert McDaniels.

“The most important fact is to bring the community, sit the community back in the driver’s seat, into this fight of prevention,” said safety activist Shedrick Henry.

To do this, the Oakland Police Department is restructuring positions. The Violent Crime Operation Center will be disbanded, and its officers reassigned. The Department of Violence Prevention will be restructured next month.

Of course the program has the word “ceasefire” in its name.

Could go the alternative ... give them all guns and ammunition and deal with the survivors.

Did they really write that? Methinks they meant "formerly incarcerated"...otherwise they sprung felons out of jail to gather on the courthouse steps?!?

Why is this so hard to understand? The consequences of moral depravity are simple. You shall know know them by their works.
Government schools teach nothing about true morality and are prohibited from teaching Biblical truths. The Ten commandments solves the puzzle but hey, who cares? Every man for himself; rob, pillage and plunder but just wait till it happens to you. We are on our way to total collapse.

Are they going to “restructure” the criminals?

Typical liberal crap. Form a committee, then congratulate themselves.

(In an election year)

wouldn’t it be more efficient if they told homeowners and business owners to arm themselves and shoot the thugs?

Was Kamala Harris on hand to add to these word salad statements?

I used to have a satellite office in Oakland, in the early 2000s.

I became an expert at rarely going that office.

Advice to anyone driving by the once very nice city of Oakland (880, 580 etc) keep going. There is absolutely no good reason to offramp there (or anywhere in the east bay.)

Back in 1978 I owned a logistics company based in Fremont, California. Twice a week we sent 2 trucks north into Oakland.

It was a miserable Hellhole even back then. If the driver/driver helper didn’t lock the roll up door on the trailers as they moved product from the vehicles to the customers in just the short time it took to walk 50 feet or so they would return to find the trailers being looted, generally by very young, under 18, groups of feral 13%’ers.

I eventually stopped going into Oakland and at the same time San Jose, which at the time was much more dangerous than Oakland.
