Massie says he’s not afraid of backlash for supporting DeSantis: ‘I’ve got the Trump antibodies’

Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) said in a Sunday interview he’s not afraid of facing backlash from former President Trump for backing Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’s (R) campaign against the former president.

“I’ve got the Trump antibodies,” Massie, a surrogate for DeSantis’s campaign, told “Fox News Sunday” host Shannon Bream when she asked whether he’s worried about the “price” he “might pay” for backing DeSantis over Trump.

Massie pointed to his opposition to the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act, signed into law under Trump on March 27, 2020, to aid in the pandemic recovery early on. Massie said he was attacked by Trump at the time and, therefore, is less afraid now.

“He came at me for opposing the CARES Act. I was the only congressman who did. I said it was going to cause inflation, that it would cause shortages. And oh, by the way, it funded the mail-in ballots and spent $2 trillion,” Massie said. “Contrast that with Ron DeSantis. He called me up while everybody was hating on me, including that president, and said, ‘I’m going to open our economy and make sure our kids go to school.’”

“Now, Trump came at me and I won my reelection, so I’m not worried about it, but I think there are — a lot of those endorsements aren’t wholehearted endorsements,” Massie said, referring to the recent endorsements Trump has gotten from Republican politicians spanning the ideological spectrum.

Massie said he thinks other members are endorsing Trump out of fear of retribution if Trump wins.

At this point, it would be more helpful to cause of saving America for Mr. Massie to hop on the board the Trump Train or if he cannot bring himself to do that, at least remain quiet. The only person he is helping with these comments is Joseph Biden.

Had high hopes for that fella. Thought he’d succeed the turtle. Would the primary voters pull a Cantor to prove we’re not messing’ around? I do believe you already know the answer.

He’s an odd one but doesn’t sound like he’s jumping on the Trump train any time soon

There will be no accountability over this country’s disastrous COVID policies. The liars and grifters will never be exposed. We will be gaslit to deny the very events that we all collectively witnessed with our own eyes.

Back-up option is Rep. James Comer for that seat.

I dont think he’s put a foot wrong in his congressional career

Perhaps Trump should do a last minute ad for the democrat in November. We can afford a loss for 2 years. Send a message/shot across the bow. We’re not vigilant enough otherwise McCarthy would have at least had a primary challenger. We’ll need Trump to do what he did to Jeb. Don’t forget Little Marco, McLame, bird brain, fat boy.

Massie is a principled conservative. Trump already tried to take him out several years ago with a RINO and failed miserably.

Drink the trump koolaid or else. You must stick with the lockdowner in chief who awarded fauci the presidential commendation award.
Only he can save you… while Davos is taking about disease X .. everyone is shrilling for the big pharma big gov medicine president. Who doesn’t want more lockdowns and masking. Mail in ballots, bumpstock bans..
he offered amnesty which gave us caravans.

I agree with what Massie has said except for the “convictions” bit.

The criminal prosecutions of Trump simply are not justified.

Having had crude consensual sex in a dressing room deserves no financial award.

Accusing the guy of rape afterward does justify a financial award, to the guy.

I will vote for DeSantis if he is on the Florida presidential primary ballot.

DeSantis brings legal skills to the table, along with the great goals of Trump.

I would prefer to eat dinner and to have a beer with Trump. The guy just loves people, except when those people are nasty.

I don’t criticize Massie for endorsing DeSantis.

I criticize him because he’s full of sh!t.

As another Freeper pointed out recently: Never trust a politician who spends every waking moment warning about our national debt … and then casts the deciding committee vote on a debt ceiling elimination bill that allows the Biden administration to spend as much money as it wants.
