Trump Reiterates Anti-CBDC Stance, Credits Vivek Ramaswamy for Policy Guidance

Donald Trump has doubled down on his opposition to central bank digital currencies (CBDCs) at a rally in Laconia, New Hampshire Monday Night.

“Vivek wanted this: I will never allow the creation of a Central Bank Digital Currency,” Trump said, referring to crypto-friendly candidate Vivek Ramaswamy, a critic of CBDCs, who recently suspended his campaign after a disappointing showing in Iowa.

“This would be a dangerous threat to freedom, and I will stop it from coming to America,” he has previously said. “Such a currency would give a federal government, absolute control over your money. They could take your money, and you wouldn’t even know it was gone.”

Recently, Florida Governor Ron Desantis, another CBDC critic, also suspended his campaign and endorsed Trump.

“It’s clear to me that a majority of Republican primary voters want to give Donald Trump another chance,” he said in a video posted online. “I signed a pledge to support the Republican nominee, and I will honor that pledge.” With DeSantis and Ramaswamy out of the primary, crypto might now take a back seat, CoinDesk’s Jesse Hamilton recently wrote.

Digital assets have not been a central issue in the 2024 U.S. presidential race but have kept reappearing in the spotlight as a peripheral topic by Republican candidates, but with recent candidate dropouts and Nikki Haley’s lack of focus on crypto, its prominence in discussions may further diminish.

Regardless, CoinDesk reported last year that for DeSantis’ office in Florida – as Governor, not the Republican primary candidate – CBDCs were one of the hottest topics, suggesting that voters might want to hear more.

It would help if someone explained to the voting public, just how a CBDC might work and why it is a threat to their freedom. I sort of understand, but I’m sure a vast number of voters have no clue at all.

Once a CBDC is instituted, you have lost control of your money.

The government can make it disappear in a nanosecond. They have you under complete control.

You cannot ‘buy’ or ‘sell’ without the government’s knowledge AND approval.

Every transaction is monitored and logged for future reference.

You will have no ‘cash’ with which to buy anything.

Illicit drug deals will no longer be possible.

Armed Robberies and muggings will no longer be possible, at least for money.

Your entire life will be an ‘open book’ as far as the things you ‘buy’.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
When I was a teenager, circa 1968-1973, I read a sci-fi novel where a guy that had a certain skillset was approached by the ‘government’ to recruit him to do a job. He refused. They made all his ‘credits’ disappear from his bank account. He watched as the numbers on his watch slowly ticked down to zero. He couldn’t even buy a stick of gum, pay his rent or purchase a meal. He had to do their bidding....................
Worse than tracking your purchases, is what else they can and will do.
I heard one of those WEF a-holes bragging about it on a video: “Your purchases cannot only be tracked, but using your money for things deemed undesirable will not be allowed.”
Actually, gleefully bragging about it.
And, as Dan Bongino pointed out on his podcast (accurately) they won’t need to have you fill out tax forms. They will know exactly how much goes in and out, and will simply deduct accordingly. They will also be able to force you to spend money even if you don’t want to in order to manipulate an economy.
No, there is nothing good that will come from it, and plenty that is bad.
Vivek struck me as a used car salesman on day one and he’s done nothing but solidify that impression.
It seems clear where ‘Coin Disk’ stands. The article is a bucket of deliberately written to confuse the reader trash.
It’s pretty well established that we passed the “Trust our Government” Red line long ago.
That would be SO COOL!
Just THINK of the good that could be done!
Government would not only be able to know your whereabouts at any given moment, but also could know and regulate WHAT you spend your money on too!
All with just a little biometric thing like your fingerprint or retina scan!
NO MORE cheating on taxes via the underground economy; all those landscapers, restauranteurs, bar owners and coin-op laundry owners will start paying their fair share.
Plus, since money will be just a digital thing, overspending on any given thing can be controlled by the bank. People with addictions to alcohol, beef, or chocolate can be helped by the bank just refusing to pay for more than a rationed amount. People who drive too much will have to account for all the gasoline that they burn.
The state will have control of EVERY aspect of a person's life. There will be a complete audit trail of every single person's movement and expenditures.
WE CAN ELIMINATE CRIME!!
And these scofflaws out there saying it's TMOTB. They have no idea of the Brave New World that's unfolding right before their eyes.
‘Donald Trump has doubled down on his opposition to central bank digital currencies“
This is the one that may get him killed
It’s like the govt logging into your online bank acct, reviewing your past and pending purchases, approving some, denying others. And deducting any amount from your account they see fit.
I can’t believe that anyone who thinks freedom is a good idea would think CBDC is a good idea. Government would use it to try to control people’s behavior (including speech.) If you think cancel culture is bad now, just wait until the government can nickel and dime you into submission.
Yes, your money will have an EXPIRATION DATE just like a gallon of milk!
No more stuffing it under a mattress or burying it in a mason jar! Spend it on approved items or put it into an approved investment, or lose it! THINK of the stimulus to the economy!
An economic golden age is upon us, thanks to the miracle of global information systems, AI, and biometrics!
It would allow the government to track every firearm purchase. Store or private sale won’t matter.
Let me see if I can help some with trying to explain the “why” or the real purpose behind the whole CDBC initiative. I won’t give too much about my own personal background other than I’m in (and have been) in corporate finance for the past 30 plus years and I’ve been studying this issue quite a bit and here are my conclusions as I see them today;
The Federal Reserve (a privately owned institution that is not controlled or part of the US govt) as well as other Western central banks know that the their respective governments (ie their borrowers) have racked up huge debts that will NEVER be repaid by their own populations, hence whey those (as our own) governments are desperate to import a new generation of future debt servants (ie illegal immigration) by the millions because their own aging populations as well as their declining birth rates spell doom for said governments’ to continue to pay the bare minimum which of course are just the interest payments on annual debt loads. That debt has to not only continuously be rolled over but also new debt has to be borrowed just to keep things going, hence why the debt “ceiling” must ALWAYS be increased. The problem is coming up with the petrodollar and the currencies tied to it in the same over indebted Western countries. The powers that be know that time is coming soon where a large portion of the world’s population and said economies will move away from the petrodollar (dollar) and THAT is what is pushing the “green” initiatives so the same Western countries can claim that selling and purchasing oil in dollars (after its eventual collapse) can be off set by non “fossil” fuel energy. The CBDC comes into play because the Central Banks need their own alternatives to “keep the system going” after the world realizes that the old currencies from the Western economies (especially the US) will be useless and the ONLY way to not only prevent a societal collapse (AND also keep control) is to introduce a NEW currency that will be imposed on everyone regardless of whether we want it or not. In summary; it’s to replace the old system of debt servitude with a new system while still being in control…..hope that helped a bit!
"just how a CBDC might work and why it is a threat to their freedom"
Use the freezing of the bank accounts of Canadian truckers. Or what Give Send Go tried to do.
Or the debanking/demonetizing activities that have gone on the last 5 or 6 years.
For the Left--ask them what they think if Trump had that power.
