The purpose of the secret ballot is to make it impractical for people to sell their vote.
Mail-in ballots defeat the purpose of ballot secrecy.
Mail-in ballots should only be allowed in cases where a person could not otherwise vote.
I believe ballot secrecy is required by international treaty.

Perhaps ballots should be posted online in near real-time.
Each voting machine would buffer ballots (to effectively preserve ballot secrecy).
When a voting machine buffer holds 60 or more ballot pages, the first 30 would be sent to election headquarters (in random order to preserve ballot secrecy). At the end of the voting day the remaining ballots would be uploaded, normally at least 30.
Election headquarters would then tabulate and post them online.

The date of image creation would be set not at when the ballot is scanned in but when it is uploaded to get the ballot secrecy required by The International convention on Political and Civil Rights.
Unless there are extenuating circumstances(illness, disability, out of the country/state) there is no reason for mail in ballots, the right to vote means you show up to vote, not “mail it in” or let a ballot harvester to solicit you and fill out your ballot for you. All this mail and and ballot harvesting, no voter ID, and ranked choice voting are allowing the deep state to select our leaders rather than we the people.

You missed same-day registration, which should not be allowed as a college student might have lived in Michigan and might be attending college in Wisconsin and have state picture IDs from both.
