New York Post ^ | 1-31-24

WASHINGTON — A watchdog group is demanding documents from the Biden administration after whistleblowers alleged that a regulation is under development that would effectively ban private gun sales.

The group, Empower Oversight, said Wednesday that two sources have claimed that the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) is preparing to propose a rule requiring background checks for most or all gun sales.

No, this will apply to any transfer.

It's clearly not legal, as this kind of change in the law is the purview of the legislature. Let's see if the GOP cares enough to protect its Constitution authority.

Their goal is to prevent NON-VIOLENT citizens from having guns while deliberately and intentionally, with full knowledge and awareness, allowing and encouraging violent criminals to get their guns illegally.

Well, I suppose that’s good news for the 3D printer market.

I’ll obey these and many other laws,

provided by our benevolent government for my safety,

just as soon as I start wearing a seat-belt.

In order to regulate sales of private arms, there must be a registration list of all, or nearly all, of them. Assembling such a list is contrary to US law, and is almost certainly unconstitutional.

On top of that, there will be about as much compliance with such registration, and reporting of private sales, as there was obedience to the 55 mile an hour speed limit. I think that is an extremely risky thing for any government to do, because it simply encourages total and complete contempt for the law. This started with Prohibition, and moved onto the 55 mile an hour limit in the 70s and 80s. This would be a straw that breaks the camel’s back in terms of any respect that the average person has for the law.

Which would require registration. Not going to happen because no one would comply. Unless of course, the gangs in Chicago are planning to sign up for it. Has the ATF polled that important group to get their thoughts?

Encouraging contempt for the law by common ordinary folks is a slippery slope that may lead to many unanticipated results. Like the ‘Missing in Action 2’ film starring Chuck Norris. The sadistic Vietnamese prison camp commandant warns a French mercenary and business partner to never again criticize him in front of his men, because doing so sets a very dangerous precedent.

Per the US Constitution; if a law is contrary to the US Constitution, the law itself is unconstitutional and cannot be legally enforced. Operative word is “legally”.

***that would effectively ban private gun sales. ****

How did that work with Prohibition! Can they stop a person from selling or trading a firearm to a neighbor in a back alley or garage? The olden days when our County Seat had “Gun and Dog trading Days” on the town square are long gone. So is the Confederate soldier statue.

I’m not sure if I’m allowed to do this on this forum, but here goes. This is my home state of Kansas.

***In order to regulate sales of private arms, there must be a registration list of all,***

No wonder that in 1941, just days before the Pearl Harbor attack, Congress reaffirmed Second Amendment rights and prohibited gun registration. In 1968, bills to register guns were debated, with opponents recalling the Nazi experience and supporters denying that the Nazis ever used registration records to confiscate guns. The bills were defeated, as every such proposal has been ever since, including recent “universal background check” bills.

The lies we have been told over the years...

1962 We ONLY want to register handguns. Rifles will not be affected!
1964, We ONLY want to register ALL firearms, not ban them.

1968 We ONLY want to register all guns, and ban the import of foreign Saturday Night Specials, and 5-shot bolt action army surplus rifles! (they got the ban).

1970, We ONLY want to ban small American handguns. Rifles will not be affected!

1976 We ONLY want to ban ALL handguns! Rifles will not be affected!

1981, Actress Lee Grant on Good Morning America (ABC) screams...”THE NRA IS A RIFLE ORGANIZATION! THEY SHOULD GIVE UP THEIR HANDGUNS AND THEY CAN KEEP THEIR RIFLES!”

1984, they came for the rifles.

1994..When they thought they had banned “As-s-s-ault rifles they did not shut off the lights and go home. they immediately went after their next target, .50 cal single shot rifles “THAT CAN TAKE DOWN AN AIRPLANE!”

They will never be satisfied till they have an unarmed population.

Yeah, you aren’t kidding. I can’t even own my .54 caliber black powder flintlock rifle in the state of CA, because it’s .50 caliber.
