Is Zelenskyy's four-star general about to become his main political opponent?
euronews ^ | 02/01/2024 | Aleksandar Đokić

The Zelenskyy-Zaluzhnyi beef is a reminder that the essence of politics lies in disagreement or divergence of group interests — especially when those interests involve the survival of the nation and its people, Aleksandar Đokić writes.

As the war in Ukraine nears the two-year mark, global attention has radically shifted away from Russia's ongoing act of aggression. Battlefield reports have become scarce, and the continued humanitarian crisis affecting tens of millions of Ukrainians barely makes the news any more.

Yet, the most recent bombshell out of Kyiv alleging a behind-the-scenes dispute between President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and army commander-in-chief Valerii Zaluzhnyi brought Ukraine to the headlines of the media around the world once more.

Rumours of Zaluzhnyi's imminent dismissal as a consequence of an ever-widening rift between two key figures in wartime Ukraine of today are said to be tied to the fact that Zaluzhnyi — seen by many as a level-headed realist — has become increasingly more popular among Ukrainians than Zelenskyy himself.

Or a consequence of certain folks just stirring the pot for good print and good meddling

When it happens let me know. The general seems like a good man, not sure he is interested in politics but if so go for it. We have had several generals as presidents.

But I am truly confused, how can there be a political challenger to zalinsky if he is a dictator and Ukraine is not really a democracy you know like
Russia is😎

The clown in Kiev is about to learn the meaning of the phrase: "Keep your friends close, and your enemies closer."

Kyrylo Budanov, the Ukrainian Spy Chief. Supposedly Zelensky wants him in charge.

Notice how Z was in the process of completely losing it in Kiev the last few days? Who shows up to crack the whip, put everyone in their place and save Z’s a$$? Nuland rolls into town and the stooges all get in line. Get in Nuland’s grifting graft line so as not to miss their share. It all kabuki in Kiev, the bosses in DC call the shots.

Zelensky has some allies in Kyiv. Kyrylo Budanov is one of them.

Valerii Zaluzhnyi is a pragmatist. I'm sure he has some allies on his side. Zaluzhnyi would favor a cease fire with Russia.

Zelensky will fight to the bitter end.

Apparently Poroshenko and Zaluzhnyi have a relationship.

Zelensky won't let Zaluzhnyi stop fighting the Russians and sue for peace.

Zaluzhnyi probably feels that if he resigns, Zelensky will be more aggressive. And that's not what you want to do right now if you're Ukraine.

Zelenskyy has done a lot of dictator like things with the war as an excuse like canceling some other political parties claiming they were too pro Russia, but it might be harder to play that card on a trusted General. Hopefully Zelenskyy will not succeed in getting the absolute power in your false dichotomy. Same with Biden or Trudeau. There are in fact would be dictator despicable leaders in the world.

Valerii Zaluzhnyi would have to go ahead with a coup. Zelensky was popular but I think his act is getting old now that the war is a stalemate.
