Rising costs of housing pushing millennials to make ‘drastic sacrifices’ by living in vans for years

The rising costs of living over the last few years have driven the younger generation to make “drastic sacrifices” in order to reset their financial stability or be able to own a home in the future.

Younger people are opting to live in cost-effective vans and showcase their tiny living quarters on TikTok to the fascination of the internet.

Michael Alberse, a TikToker with 57,000 followers, moved into a van one year out of college while working at Google at the age of 22, which changed his financial future “forever” and paved the way to homeownership.

“I chose to live in a van as a short-term sacrifice to almost guarantee my long-term financial future,” he said.

“I chose to buy a van and build it out so I could save money on rent and put those additional dollars into investments… So it’s not my forever plan. But at least it’s a great start, so I have a strong base for my future.”

I hope they keep getting exactly what they voted for. Given how libs are they are lucky to live in vans instead of cardboard boxes.

The drug addicts get to live in cardboard boxes.
Gen Z gets to live in their car.
Illegal immigrants get to live in hotels.

I moved into an rv temporarily. Lemme tell you, I LOVE it!

I kinda don’t want to stop. I just know these things are not built to last and the costs will never pay off.

But I am thinking of a prefab shed on a tiny piece of land to compliment the rv.

Seriously, check it out.

The vans in the article are Class B recreational vehicles, not old work vans. I suspect they cost $100k+

They may find after maintenance costs, campground/lot fees, the benefit may not be as big as they anticipated.

This is what a bankrupt & collapsing society look like.

Clearly, Ukraine & Israel are more important than Americans.

Vote for a thieving RAT to be your president and this is what you get. His invaders are driving up the costs and availability of homes. You voted Biden. Now, EMBRACE THE SUCK. Elections do have consequences. BTW: Why can’t you afford a home now that Jesus H. Xidenskyyyyyy has “forgiven” your student loans?

There is also the matter of land: The homes need a site to sit on and local permission is often required to build additional structures on a homeowner’s property. Buyers should look into local ordinances before hitting the “Buy Now” button.

ah, the little detail.

the issue with home prices is getting out of hand.

prices are being pushed higher due to real estate investment companies like black rock buying up massive chucks of the available inventory.

in my area (pinellas county, west of tampa, fl), a simple 3/2 will start around $400k. that’s pretty pricey for new home buyers that have no equity to put down.

we need protections against these massive investment companies

Yes, my wife and I full time RVed for 4 years It was a dream life, and had the additional benefit of allowing investments to rise while expenditures were reduced. Not a bad plan, but we traveled as an added benefit. Doing this lifestyle in the Google parking lot would not be as much fun.
BTW, we had a sat internet system which now is unnecessary because most RV parks have Wi Fi. Again, this is very different from parking at the curb in an urban area. And I agree that considering the buy in and sale aspects, it was quite expensive on an annual basis.

I remember when hippies did this same type of thing. Many of them became responsible adults later in life.
