Newsom Stands By ‘Equitable’ Electricity Bills as Opposition Builds

California governor Gavin Newsom is standing by the state’s soon-to-be-implemented "equitable" policy to base electricity bills on income, rather than usage, even as public and political opposition to the idea builds in the Democratic coalition.

A spokesman for the governor said on Tuesday that Newsom is looking forward to seeing a final proposal from the state's utilities commission "that is consistent with" the 2022 law that required the agency to devise an income-based billing system.

And the recipients of this nonsense will use more electricity than the working class stiffs who are paying for it.

Because they can.

Lets think about this. IF the bill is based on income not usage, why bother to turn off the light?

” base electricity bills on income, rather than usage, “

That seems like an incentive to leave the lights on, etc, if usage does not figure into your bill. So more rolling blackouts for CA.

It is one thing for a state to pass legislation that gives money to someone who cannot afford a bill. Still wrong but often fuzzy enough the courts allow it.

It is entirely different to require a private business to discriminate based on any reason, including economic, requiring that business to charge more for services between citizens.

I would think for starters the 14th would have a say but much more constitutionally would apply.

So this is The Law not just a hare-brained policy decision. Once again, people get what they elect.

I’ve seen homeless men charging their cell phones in a Whole Foods parking lot, using the sockets at the base of the street lights. Stealing electricity has long been a thing.

The people who actually go out and work are working for the people who don’t work and who are laughing their azzes off because of all the free money they are getting.

The working people can flee california, for now. Until newsome becomes president and applies communism to the whole country.

Not sure but I suspect this means that the rate you pay for use is progressively raised according to your tax return. Not just a flat rate based on income. Yes. That would be supremely stupid.

Thats not the way it works. If electricity is $0.45 per killowatt hour, based on your income (meaning you have one) you might be paying $0.65 per hour, or who knows how they will divide it, while the welfare family will be paying $0.25 per hour.

Just another democrap way to disincentivize people from bettering themselves. Why better yourself, when, you will have to pay for those that do not.

Makes for a lazy, compliant populace, that, the dems can control.
