Ukraine under closer western scrutiny
Financial Times ^ | February 3, 2024 | Tony Barber

For most of the two years after Russia’s full-scale invasion in February 2022, the emphasis was on Ukraine’s heroic self-defence, the impressive leadership qualities of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, and the paramount need for western governments to maintain military and financial support for the Ukrainian struggle against its revanchist enemy.

This began to change towards the end of 2023, as it became clear that Ukraine’s counteroffensive had failed to achieve a breakthrough, and that US and European backing for Kyiv’s war effort was mired in political difficulties.

On Thursday, the EU overcame Hungarian objections and approved a €50bn aid package for Ukraine — a decision that received the western media’s full attention. Still, such coverage doesn’t detract from the impression that there is nowadays more reporting and analysis of domestic political tensions in Ukraine, corruption and problems in areas such as recruitment for the armed forces.

“Russia’s FULL-SCALE invasion”

Code words (”full scale”) to other news outlets that this article will follow the Party Line, and thus they don’t have to worry about facts getting out.

Just this week a big cockamamie broke out in Kiev over who was in charge of doling out the western graft. It took Nuland, the enforcer, one day in Kiev to reestablish the pecking order. Let’s see if it holds without further attention from the DC bosses.

It was also before taxpayers knew we were
being gouged... and that US tax dollars were paying for
<><>the salaries of 618,000 Ukraine educators, 517,000 health workers, and 56,500 first responders
<><>helped sustain Ukraine’s healthcare services,
<><>helped meet Ukraine’s pension responsibilities for 9.8 million people,
<><>assisted 1.3 million internally displaced Ukranians,
<><>provided housing assistance to 4.1 million,
<><>provided social assistance to 240,000 low-income families
<><>helped subsidize 480,000 Ukranian persons with disabilities,
<><>bought supplies for Ukranian farmers,
<><>financed finding markets for Ukraine small business.

All of that in addition to billions in military and other economic aid.

China has a new defense minister and has just openly reiterated that it is backing Russia 100% in the Russia Ukraine War. So far none of the open Chinese support has included military equipment but I expect that to change.

Russia is about to have unlimited armament support from China.

China wants Russia to wade deeper in Ukraine, so it can snatch some of Siberia.

So you're actually still claiming that it was NOT a "full scale invasion?"

So I guess those hundreds of thousands of Muscovite casualties and thousands upon thousands of destroyed Muscovite vehicles and other equipment, not to mention the failed airborne assault at Hostomel Airport, are figments of our imaginations, right?

Doesn’t matter, that’s subjective. What I’m pointing out is the Dog Whistle that the media uses to communicate with each other.

No, you moron, Russia never planned to take Kiev with 40,000 troops. No military on earth would try to take a city of three million with that amount of troops. Only numbskull would argue otherwise.

Russia's land objectives from the start were to liberate Donetsk and Lugansk and to build a land bridge from Crimea from mainland Russia, which it accomplished in less than a year despite the fact Ukraine had an army of 600,000.

Well, the Chinese Defense Director’s name is Dong, so he’s probably as much of a d**k as Putin.

Another lie. Russia tried to seize Kyiv and Kharkiv and failed miserably, and had to settle for lesser-defended territories.

Russian troops advance within 20 miles of Ukraine capital, Pentagon says

Stop lying.

Riggght....that why they left this huge mess just 10 miles northwest of Kyiv.

...or tried (and failed miserably) to take nearby Hostomel Airport with two brigades of paratroopers and a Motorized Regiment...

Battle of Antonov Airport" width = "500"

I am curious what the thoughts are here about what specific military aid China could supply to Russia in Ukraine and how it would help Russia’s efforts there?
