““Gallagher is next for him potentially,” the person added, noting that he has relationships with deep-pocketed Trump donors.”
Those better be REALLY good relationships. Possibly because Squish Gallagher was previously mulling a Senate run in 2024, he’s got over $4 million in his campaign treasury as of 12/31. There are actual GOP Senate candidates who don’t have that much, and it’s entirely possible that no House candidate in the entire country has more money right now.
Money talks, at least it does when there’s THAT much of it around. So unless Trump’s deep pockets crew comes up with a lot of cash quickly, and unless this one vote has obliterated Gallagher’s support in his district, he’s a shoo-in to win any primary.
Something else to consider: the district is pretty safe Republican (R+10) — for now. However:
The emboldened WI Democrats may gerrymander the congressional districts between now and November. If they sense that Gallagher is suddenly vulnerable to a Democrat (or to a conservative Republican) they might change the district to cause it to flip. Previously, the likely intent of the upcoming gerrymandering was to eliminate the 2 GOP Reps. in the southern part of the state (Steil and Van Orden).
Just look at Gallagher for a moment. 40 years young. A whole career ahead of him. The top-tier republican to take on Tammy Baldwin for her senate seat. So does why doesn’t he step up to take on the challenge? As I see it this is a case of discretion being the better part of valor. In other words he’s a coward.
In this vote it appears he’s waiting for one of the senate incumbents to retire. Incumbents are very hard to take out suggesting he’s lazy. With this vote it might serve him well when the time comes. Playing a game. Take him out in the primary. Doable?
