Correlation between, say, President vote and Senate vote is much higher than between President vote and Governor vote.

Massachusetts has had several Republican governors.
Wyoming had a Democrat governor not too long ago.

Yup, he must be convinced Trump is going to win.

Being a Civil War buff, I’ve looked for years at 18th century homes in Sharpsburg — none large, but solid, well kept and beautifully modernized. I might have moved there year ago except that I would have had a long commute (probably by train) and would have had to pay Maryland state, property and inheritance taxes.

Plus my wife wants to live somewhere with some real restaurants, as opposed to a small town beer and burgers joint, which is all the fine dining I require. Women and their unreasonable demands ....

But taxes aside, most of Maryland is a great place to live. Except for three counties. And the I-270 commuter sewer corridor.

Sounds OK to me. He might be the best you’re ever going to see as a Republican senator from a state like Maryland.

We'd be better off with a Democrat than a vain, belligerent Trump hating ingrate like Hogan. He's like Christie with a side of crabcakes and beer. He got lots of practice collaborating with a Dem legislature in Maryland; old habits die hard. At least a Dem would be more honest about that one thing: their political leanings.

I always vote for the most conservative candidate running. My guess is that in Maryland, as weak as he is, that would be Hogan.

We had a great guy in Washington County, Neil Parrott, but his billionaire Dem opponent in the last election released a pack of evil lies about him at the last minute that sowed doubt in that laid-back farming county. And the Republican Party would not give Parrott the support he would have needed, preferring the Uniparty Establishment to Parrott, a good man (along the lines of Andy Harris or Rand Paul).

He will spend more time fighting Trump than helping any GOP majority. He is obsessed.

Those who don’t actually live in Maryland won’t understand why this is a good thing. But it is. Hogan is very popular, and is the ONLY Republican who could possibly win a senate seat. It’s true that he was all in on the Covid mask mandates and vaccines. But it’s also true that he ran the state in a fiscally responsible way. And regarding taxes, he was finally able, after years of trying, to substantially lower income taxes for retirees. Just in time for me, I might add. I have a pretty sweet pension from my employer and from a few years working for the state. That, together with my wife’s pension and our Social Security, provides a comfortable retirement. And with the new tax law for retirees, we will not pay a cent in Maryland state income tax.

It is foolish to be a purist about this. He’s obviously not MAGA, but he’s a helluva lot better than any Democrat would be, and like someone else said, we have to be able to count to 51 on this.

I really wish every county from Carroll westward would join West Virgina; and the Eastern Shore might be able to neutralize Delaware by joining it. Then make the NYC-Philly-Wilmington-Baltimore-DC corridor one state, and leave the rest of us alone.

We don’t need another Romney in the Senate.

100%. Too few people understand civics any more, and how FedGov works. Or, operates, I should say.

Hogan is extremely popular in Maryland

What? Where would that be? Down at the all-you-can-eat buffet?

Depends on whether or not we have a majority without him. And even if we do, how secure that majority is. It’s foolish not to take the best we can expect out of Maryland. I’m not one for cutting off my nose to spite my face. I’ll be voting for him in November.

As a MD resident I agree with (1) but (2) and (3) are devoid of reality. MD Dems will cast Hogan as a Trump surrogate (funny, right?) and push for a local black politician as the only logical choice. Not to mention that the liquor store magnate (Trone) money may be a factor on the Dem side, but he’s an older white dude so no chance.
