Mike Johnson Aiming to Vote on Deep State Spy Powers Reauthorization Next Week

Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) is aiming to vote on reauthorizing and potentially reforming deep state powers next week, according to a report.

Politico reported compromise legislation is still being drafted between Republicans on the more privacy-minded Judiciary Committee, more intelligence-community-friendly members on the Intelligence Committee, and representatives from Republican leadership.

The bill would largely mirror a bill drafted by Intelligence Committee Republicans, and Judiciary Committee members and other privacy “hawks” would then be allowed to offer amendments, including one that would require a warrant before searching Americans’ private information under Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA).

Section 702 is a law that allows intelligence agencies to collect communications of targeted foreigners. It also may lead to targeted surveillance of Americans’ private communications, which privacy advocates consider a run around the Fourth Amendment’s requirement for a warrant to search Americans’ communications.

“Intelligence agencies need a court order to obtain your data directly. But as usual, they look for any way to avoid scrutiny and skirt the law. The Deep State will go to any length to spy on the American people. The entire enterprise is rotten,” Rep. Dan Bishop (R-NC) said.

Any House member that votes for a reauthorization of the FISA Court is endorsing the illegal spying on Trump and his associates during his 2016 campaign and then his Presidency. They are also endorsing the government's illegal spying on American citizens.

It is my hope enough vote against it so that the FISA court will be scuttled.

‘endorsing the illegal spying on Trump and his associates during his 2016 campaign and then his Presidency’

Trump himself signed the re-authorizations I think?

Not a slight on him but shows Deep state has so much power it’s incredible.

I trust the judiciary committee and what they go with...

The issue within the Intelligence Community was the definition of “collected,” which was the debate among senior Intelligence Oversight executives back in 2011-12 time period.

At issue was whether data of Americans could be passively collected and stored on US government servers. The policy was written in a manner that allowed it, because they defined the term “collected” to mean drawn from databases for analysis: and only at that time the appropriate Intelligence Oversight exemptions were to be applied.

The problem was.........once all the data is on servers readily available to be searched......the definition of actual analysis got shady.

Vote it up or vote it down - won’t make any difference.
The intel community has tasted the drug of snooping and it is hooked.

Do not give Biden and Deep State anything Mr Johnson. Your job from now until the election is to give them nothing.

MAGA, TRUMP, NRA, FREEDOM ... - I just want to go ahead and get on record, because re-authorization will mean more of the same UNCONSTITUTIONAL spying that has been going on since "W" set it up.

Last I heard there were 17 different “Intelligence Agencies” in the Federal Government. At the top is the CIA.

Many believe, myself being one, that you could cut employment in ANY federal agency by 50% without effecting “results”. And, “results” have been piss poor in recent decades across the board.

Such an employment CUT should be pre-emptive and START with any employee hired since January 20, 2009 (Obama sworn in).

If that’s more than 50% then so be it. Billions would be saved and “Intelligence” would most likely be much improved.

AND, most of all, the “Intelligence Communities” ability to influence, buy off and intimidate politicians would be cut dramatically.
