This is the opposite of fear porn. Fear porn is the equivalent of “We’re all gonna die!”. This article is suggesting that one should be careful if they are elderly or have compromised immune systems.
In the case of COVID they specifically ignored that a significant number of deaths were people “with” COVID instead of “because of” COVID.

IIRC another news report said the fatal case had been undergoing chemotherapy for cancer. The wrong time to get a odd bug. The skin lesions pox viruses often cause can point the diagnosis in in the right direction, if they’re thought of. Although determining which pox virus, in a patient who’s sick enough to want to do more than waiting it out, requires fancy testing. The sort of thing we used to trust the CDC to do. There are a couple drugs approved to treat smallpox (admittedly without human cases for testing) and the broad spectrum antiviral cidofivir, approved and tested for other indications, may also help orthopox viruses in general. But drug side effects are possible problems. Although my faith in the CDC is down I’d hope they learned something about these drug options during the recent monkeypox outbreak within the gay community.
