The wrong people are retiring from Congress
Roll Call ^ | 2/12/24 | Stuart Rothenberg

Posted on 02/12/2024 2:21:55 PM PST by cotton1706

House Republicans have moved quickly and strongly to the right, embracing the most extreme positions on cultural issues (including abortion, gay and trans rights, and guns) and isolationism on foreign policy and national security.

snip

The House now has a long list of extreme ideologues, ranging from Eli Crane and Andy Biggs of Arizona to Clay Higgins of Louisiana, Troy Nehls of Texas, Bob Good of Virginia, Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia and Scott Perry of Pennsylvania, who don’t care if government works at all. In fact, they are content with gridlock, as they pander to the needs of former President Donald Trump.

Over in the Senate, the GOP also continues its slide to the right.

Sure, libertarian conservatives like Mike Lee of Utah and Rand Paul of Kentucky have been around for a while. But now, they are joined by the likes of Tommy Tuberville of Alabama, Roger Marshall of Kansas, Ted Budd of North Carolina, J.D. Vance of Ohio, and Markwayne Mullin of Oklahoma. Indiana Rep. Jim Banks may well join them next year.

snip

The Roy Blunts of the world are being replaced by the Josh Hawleys. As political scientist Sean Theriault noted in “The Gingrich Senators,” his 2013 book: “The short-term future (of the Senate) is bleak, at least for those critical of today’s more partisan Senate. And because it is bleak, it will become even bleaker.”

The retirements of GOP Reps. Cathy McMorris Rodgers of Washington, Mike Gallagher of Wisconsin, Patrick McHenry of North Carolina and Kay Granger of Texas are more than mere coincidences. They undoubtedly reflect the bitterness on Capitol Hill and the petty partisanship of politics these days.

Roll Call whines!

The people are done with the pantywaist types. And as a result, the pantywaist types have been hitting the road one by one.

And nobody will miss them. And they will be forgotten.

Rothenberg is known for his prediction in early 2009 that the GOP’s chances of winning back the U.S. House of Representatives in 2010 were “zero”. Rothenberg later would change his prediction as the economy worsened and polls reflected increasing support for Republicans through the Tea Party protests. The Rothenberg Political Report projected Republicans would gain 55–65 seats in the House of Representatives (they gained 63) and 6–8 seats in the Senate (they gained 6). …

What a prognosticator.

25% of what the federal government does should be done, and 70% of what the federal government does shouldn’t be done at all.

So I’m fine with Congress doing damned-all.

Except that the administrative state’s response to congressional inaction is to do what it thinks needs to be done without congressional authorization.

And that needs to stop.

In recent days it is pretty clear that hte message they are sending is, want something, hey nows your chance. One good payoff to give me my FU money; I will pass something that will really piss off the voters; and then sayonara baby. I never liked this job representing my constituency anyway.

Gridlock is good about 85% of the time. The remaining 15% is the only time we need Congress (and I’m being generous).

The other side of the aisle is radical and wants to completely destroy this country. Roll Call laments the retirement of those who are willing to aid in that destruction, if only slightly.

In the weeks before the election of Donald Trump as U.S. President, Rothenberg wrote an opinion piece for The Washington Post headlined “Trump’s path to an electoral college victory isn’t narrow. It’s nonexistent”.

Who knew following the Constitution was *extreme positions*?

When extreme is following written law and moral guidelines as opposed to promoting mutilation and abortion at any stage ...well then I think this writer is sadly mistaken and I can’t see where as they fear God one iota. I see it as Godless satanic works IMHO.

Left unsaid in Rothenberg’s sniveling is the fact that these moderate Republicans are nearly all from utterly safe districts or ones that are very close to that.

Which means that these retirees, at least in some cases, have a very good chance of being replaced by a real Republican (i.e. a conservative) and extremely little chance of being replaced by a Democrat.

Which also means that the pearl clutchers and hand wringers who appear around here every time some Republican retires and fret that “Oh noze, its 2018 all ovur uh-genn!!” can crawl back under their beds, take a few deep breaths, and relax.

As I’ve been saying all along, if/when the GOP farts away its control of the House in November, these retirements will NOT be the reason why the flip takes place. When you factor in Democrat open seats — yes some of those actually exist, believe it or not — the net effect of ALL House retirements up to now helps Republicans.

But, it’s perfectly normal for woke members with an anti-American agenda to hold office while they try to undermine our Constitution. A document, by the way, they swore to defend and uphold.

The Conservatives continue to hover around center ground,
the Founding Documents, law, and order.

These are not far right Fascist or NAZI like beliefs. They
are the beliefs of our Founders.

The current education system in the US is trying to
indoctrinate our children into Marxist norms. There isn't
a Marxist nation on earth that has been successful, not
killing off a lot of its people, and not failing as a
nation over time. Is is Fascist or NAZI like to oppose
turning our nation into the image of totalitarian
governments of the past that have killed tens of
millions and failed miserably?

Another current issue is sexuality. Are boys and girls
born boys and girls? The Conservatives say yes. The Left
says no. Which one is more the extremist here?

Abortion... Is it okay to kill the unborn, when stealing
an Eagle Egg can get you a $5,000 dollar fine and a year
in prison? LINK
