Trump will pull US out of NATO if he wins election, ex-adviser warns

As US allies reel from Donald Trump’s weekend comments encouraging Russia to attack European allies if they don’t meet NATO budget contribution goals, multiple former Trump advisers warn in my upcoming book that the former president will seek to formally withdraw the US from the NATO alliance if he wins a second term.

In “The Return of Great Powers”, which will be published March 12, a former senior US official, who served in both the Trump and Biden administrations at a high level, told me that if Trump defeats President Joe Biden in November “the US will be out of NATO.”

“NATO would be in real jeopardy,” John Bolton, Trump’s former national security adviser, agreed. “I think he would try to get out.”

Trump’s disparagement of US security commitments extends to its mutual defense agreements with South Korea and Japan as well, retired General John Kelly, who served as White House chief of staff to Trump, told me.

“The point is, he saw absolutely no point in NATO,” Kelly said in the book. “He was just dead set against having troops in South Korea, again, a deterrent force, or having troops in Japan, a deterrent force.”

“He thought (Vladimir) Putin was an okay guy and Kim (Jong Un) was an okay guy that we had pushed North Korea into a corner,” Kelly recalled. “To him, it was like we were goading these guys. ‘If we didn’t have NATO, then Putin wouldn’t be doing these things.’”

Should make it a centerpiece of his campaign. Neocon, warmongering dipshits like Bolton and Haley think Americans give a crap about NATO.

Most don’t even know what it is or what the letters stand for.

No one forced us to invade Iraq twice and Afghanistan. That doesn't mean the latter was total justified and Russia has better reasons to be in Ukraine that we did in either Iraq war.

You're blatant hypocrite because there in no doubt you supported both wars in Iraq.

The war in Ukraine is absolutely 100% a result of our meddling in Ukraine. We fomented an illegal coup. We installed a puppet government hostile to both Russia and the ethnic Russian population in Ukraine. That setoff a civil war in Ukraine. We funded, trained and armed Ukraine with lethal weapons. We teased NATO membership for Ukraine. We were running biolabs with deadly pathogens in them in Ukraine.

If Russia or China had done anything like that in Mexico, WE WOULD HAVE, JUSTIFIABLY, INVADED.

Repeating a false narrative over and over again isn't going to make it true.

Our aggression toward Russia and those pushing it have become a national security threat.

We had reasonable relations before...remember Albright dancing with Kim Sr.. You’re rewriting history to fit your agenda.

I am in favor of pulling out of NATO.

I think leaving the UN would be a mistake because as a founding member with a permanent seat on the security council, we have the power to veto veto any substantive resolution. If we leave, we lose that control.

“Donald Trump has never said we will leave NATO.”

I’m glad someone finally said this.
What Trump did say was that if a nato nation wasn’t meeting its obligations that he would not come to defend them. But I feel that’s an empty threat.

We can only hope. NATO should have been dissolved when the Warsaw Pact dissolved with the fall of the Soviet Union.

NATO was essentially welfare for the European nations and it earned the USA no gratitude. That military welfare permitted them to develop their unsupportable welfare states.

The Europeans have always had contempt for the American ‘cowboys’ despite the fact that we literally saved them in three major conflicts, the world wars and the cold war. We bore the cost and the brunt of it and again it earned us no gratitude.

One recurring feature of European politics is treachery against each other as well as we Americans. Despite Woodrow Wilson being a contemptible fool his 14 points after World War I were reasonable and which the The British and French completely ignored and which guaranteed the second world war.

Speaking of European treachery, the British MI5/MI6 were part of the Russia dossier hoax. Let them pay for their own defense and not being able to call on big brother to come riding to the rescue again.

NATO is useless.

It's worse than useless. It's dangerous and expensive.

NATO members are primarily made up of welfare leaches. Scum sucking parasites! They love to suck on the USA teet and offer NOTHING in return.

With the collapse of the Soviet Union, it is long past time that Europe defend themselves. Let England, France and Germany lift the load, or else PAY UP!

The purpose of NATO was to deter the Soviet Union. The Soviet Union fell in 1989. NATO had no mission, unless a new mission was found.

You really have to wonder about the persistence of mission, funding, employment and so on. It seems that few organizations can say “mission accomplished” and move on.

Sometimes it’s the investment community that sees things more clearly. I remember reading a few years ago that major drug companies had few new drugs in the pipeline. Hospitals were operating at a loss and might be closing. Presto, Covid-19 turned everything around.

Susan Komen searches for the cure for cancer. It’s a perpetual search and it seems that eternal funding is required. What do you suppose happens when she finds a cure? Case closed? Everyone gets a medal and goes home? Or is the cure buried so that the search, funding, and employment can continue?

And I might add.... Biden, Hunter and their cronies financially raped Ukraine for millions of dollars. Then threw them away like a dirty Biden diaper.

I don’t know that Trump would pull us out of NATO, but it might not be such a bad thing if he did.

NATO served its purpose during the Cold War. My dad was assigned to NATO in Naples, Italy for three years (which evokes some wonderful memories of my “tween” days) during that time.

But now, it looks more like money-sucking government bloat.

And if “Milk Mustache” Bolton is all spun up at the notion, then it’s worth evaluating at least.

NATO was essentially welfare for the European nations and it earned the USA no gratitude. That military welfare permitted them to develop their unsupportable welfare states.

It made Europe weak due to their massive welfare states and that's why they opened their borders to immigrants (many of them are Islamic).

We should have left NATO after 1991 after the collapse of the Soviet Union.

Well, we should leave now so the Europeans will have to learn how to stand on their own.

The NDA ‘23 states that the US cannot withdraw from NATO without a 2/3rds vote of Congress.

So…the point is moot.

“As US allies reel from Donald Trump’s weekend comments encouraging Russia to attack European allies if they don’t meet NATO budget contribution goals”

I wonder if the person who wrote that actually read it back to themselves and realized how stupid it sounds as a serious pronouncement?

Good. Pull out of NATO and the UN.

Next, kick everybody in the UN out of NY and sell the building and land to help pay off our debts.
