Critical House Election in New York Is Altered by a New Dynamic: Snow
NYTimes ^ | 02/13/2024

About 80,000 people had already cast ballots through Sunday, when the early voting period ended, a robust turnout for an off-cycle election. About 11,000 more registered Democrats cast ballots than registered Republicans, according to Democratic leaders. Mr. Suozzi’s advantage could well be narrower depending on how many voters are breaking with their party and on the breakdown of independent votes.

“I’d rather be us than them,” Jay Jacobs, the state Democratic Party chairman, said before voting got underway.

Many Republican voters still prefer to vote on Election Day, and their party is accustomed to closing a gap. The party has won nearly every major election on Long Island since 2021, partly on the strength of its turnout operation.

Early returns from NY pretty dismal as well.

With 14% of the vote in, it is Suozzi (D) 15,47 (61.5%) and Pilip (R) 9,670 (38.5%)

I see the running tally, but I’m not sure if they are all *only* early results being counted so far. If so, it’s not nearly as bad as that PA election and may be overcome-able.

But yeah, it’s not looking great at this point. I’ll be very surprised if Pirip loses by 10 points or close to it; not too surprised if she loses by “only” 5 though.

Snow shouldn’t bother the voters. Most of them are flakes.

Not much improvement now with 19% in.

This is a special election and there will be another vote for this seat in November when Trump is on the ticket. If she doesn't win tonight the Reps will need to get another nominee to run against Suozzi.

Democrats outvoted Republicans in early voting by a margin of SIX TO ONE.
_____________

We’re doomed if the GOP doesn’t mobilize and encourage more early voting.

No candidate can overcome such a deficit like that on election DA when the Rats keep banking an overwhelming number of early votes.

Queens went 52/48 for Biden in 2022; 89% in now in Queens; the Rat leads 63% to 37% there … not looking good

>>>I’m afraid you’re right, 38special.

We’re never going to win with such reliance on election day turnout when the opposition has stacked the deck in their favor.

Biden won this district under the old 2020 lines, by a little over 10 points. The district was then moved a point or two to the right for 2022.

Thanks a lot, idiot Republicans, as if they are any better than Santos, who are they to decide who should represent that district?

You would think the outrage over the immigration problems in New York as a sanctuary city would’ve backfired on them. But they keep winning race after race just doesn’t make sense. This election along with the special elections we have lost is an indication that 2024 is going to be extremely close…they know how to rig the system while we just look on with our mouths wide open in disbelief. The rats have our number. I have no faith in the election process anymore…too much interference from the outside American hating $$$ globalist!

You would certainly think that NY folks, having been recently slammed with invaders, would be sickened enough to even think about voting for a leftist, Commie Dem.

But, this is NY…and, they always seem to go for the lib.

I remember reading some negative reports on this R candidate. Ha! Possibly put out by the traitorous GOPe….did folks like Lee Zeldin help stump for her?

I admit I do not know much about her.

What’s the turnout percentage, and who is more motivated?

What does the GOP do to motivate voters? “We Suck Less” is not a winning strategy.
