Democrats are eying a plan to bypass House Speaker Mike Johnson and force a vote on a sweeping foreign aid package, but it’s quickly running into hurdles — and not just from Republicans.
Progressive firebrand Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y. told Semafor Tuesday evening that she would not sign onto a discharge petition to force a vote on the national security package in part because of the assistance it would provide to Israel. “Am I signing it? No,” she said.
The foreign aid bill combines billions of dollars in aid for Ukraine, Israel, and allies in the Asia Pacific.
Ocasio-Cortez is one of multiple progressive lawmakers who could withhold support for the measure due to objections over Israel’s conduct in the Gaza war. Some progressives will likely not sign onto a discharge petition, another Democratic representative who requested anonymity told Semafor.
A discharge petition needs 218 signatures in order to force a House vote on a piece of legislation. That means that Democrats will need to convince some Republicans to join them, while also minimizing defections in their own ranks.

And any Republican that signs it ends their career.
There’s good news tonight.
America has to come before the Reich and DC’s external schemes. We are being invaded. No walk and chew gum and we can do it all crap.
The invasion of America FRONT AND CENTER.
And what the hell is the “borrow money to give to someone else” thing?
Would your deeply in debt family go take out a bank loan to give it to a wife beater across town when YOUR OUN house is falling apart and your kid needs to see a dentist?
Odd bedfellows.
“The liberal anti Semites are opposed (at least a dozen).”
...and if the Neocon War in Ukraine ends quickly, I will GLADLY thank them for helping to provide that outcome.
You don’t thank Marxists, you drop them out of helicopters.
>There’s good news tonight.<
Hallelujah!
Liberal democrats hate Israel more than they love Ukraine, I guess.
Own... not OUN. Although it is to give it to the Banderists who used to be OUN.
By the way, 60 billion for Ukraine? Trump wanted 18 billion, once, to build the wall. They gave him 500 million here, 800 million there, and once like a billion and an half like it was pulling teeth.
But the Reich gets 60 billion on a whim. Screw that, screw DC. This deranged bill gives 8 billion to the sicko Palestinians to build more tunnels and weapons.
America first!
@TuckerCarlson
Lindsey Graham’s latest scheme is convincing Republicans, that it’s somehow better to loan Zelensky $60 billion, rather than give it to him. Some are falling for this. But it’s fraudulent. Ukraine will never repay the debt, and we’ll never make them.
This is just a more dishonest way to send more unaccounted for weapons to the region, delay the inevitable peace deal and kill more forcibly-conscripted Ukrainians, some of whom are nearly Lindsey Graham’s age.
It’d be easier to take if he’d join them on the battlefield.

PINOCHET 2028!
In retrospect, I think I used to judge Pinochet rather unfairly. We kinda need one.
How many Dems really support this??
It would have to be a Pinochet of color, sorta like a Pinotnoir (and don’t wine about it).
OTOH, perhaps we will need an ECOMCON. Like your view of Pinochet, that is not something I thought I would ever see myself thinking.
The Left and their stoolies keep doing what they're doing, the US might just get a Pinochet. And his/her last name will not be Trump.
Pinochet did nothing wrong.
The Republicans in the House, without Democrat support, have passed aid to Israel off-set by cuts in spending elsewhere in the budget.
This off-set approach could be taken with regard to Ukraine.
The Republicans in the Senate, encouraged by the House, have taken a different approach: combining enforcing the law at the U.S. border with aid to both Israel and Ukraine. The Democrats in the Senate proposed increasing funding of refugees (their version of border control) with aid to Israel and Ukraine. The Senate essentially compromised and stripped the U.S. border issues from the aid package. This is what the House now has.
The problem the Democrats have in the House is that they stand to lose a couple dozen of their members on the matter of aid to Israel. E.g., the growing number of radical left, anti-Israel Democrats. And, it’s not clear that the Democrats could fetch more than a handful of Republicans to join them in a discharge petition.
Oh yeah. The clamoring idiots will be amazed when they wish Trump was here again, and that when they see Putin’s replacement, they remember him as the one they should have worked with.
