Bipartisan House group floats $66B national security bill — to help border and Ukraine

House lawmakers on Friday floated a new bipartisan national security bill that would beef up security at the problematic US-Mexico border and provide much-needed aid to Ukraine.

The “Defending Borders, Defending Democracies Act” would restore the Trump administration’s “Remain in Mexico” policy for one year, while also allowing border enforcement authorities to detain and immediately expel illegal aliens who don’t meet the threshold for asylum claims.

The “Remain in Mexico” policy requires most migrants who reach the southern border — usually after leaving Central America or the Caribbean — to remain in Mexico while US courts review their asylum claims. However, the policy does require cooperation from the Mexican government.

“Congress must secure our border,” said Rep. Jared Golden (D-Maine), a co-sponsor on the bill.

“Restoring the Remain in Mexico policy would address SCOTUS’s ruling that this authority is discretionary.”

“With chronic budget deficits year after year, running into Trillions, where is the money for Ukraine coming from?”

You have to understand how the feds do their business to understand where the funding is coming from. And you’ll notice I said funding.

They don’t always send what they say the have committed. An example is they claim to have set aside $113.4 million but they have sent the Ukraine over $60 billion in funding and equipment through military, economic, and humanitarian aid.

https://usafacts.org/articles/how-much-money-has-the-us-given-ukraine-since-russias-invasion/

So the question is not where is it coming from, but where it is now. Taking $60B from $113.4 million is a slight disperity and leaves a committed amount that didn’t exist. You’re4 asking the right question, but nobody will hear it or care because Trump is being indicted for something else or the border is a problem or someone fell on their sword to keep other little indescresions quiet.

Starting in the 1920’s the federal government started a borrowing from Peter to pay Paul process. So a fund will go underfunded by paying for another. And if you do this enough, it is easy to hide where the money went and where it actually is for the feds thus creating over time huge slush funds that the public has no idea about when retransfers are accomplished. The books won’t balance, but with everyone’s finger in the pot, do you think they will fess up? Especially when they audit themselves.

So the possbility of something being not sent but was claimed to be may come into effect and if $6B was claimed, how many funds have been stripped to fill out the number that never existed? And taking it out of existed earmarked funds would raise one hell of a red flag. So, the money they sent, never existed...on paper or never arrived and an amount was put into the deep freeze for another rainy day while covering the loss to the slush fund and having an understanding where funds went and why projects were cancelled. It’s all a lie! N o one can triple funds without the worth. But they did it more than that.

That is what is SO pathetic about our government. All they do is pass laws. If the first 100 laws didn’t, just pass a NEW LAW. #101 is bound to work.

There’s no way to help the border as long as the criminal “Biden” junta is in charge. The President Erect could just put Trump’s requirement that asylum seekers wait in Mexico back in effect, but that requirement was lifted as soon as “Biden” took office. Unless the states use their own troops to close the border, the invasion will continue.

American leaders did not learn from Vietnam fiasco.
American leaders did not learn from Iraq fiasco.
Americans leaders did not learn from Afghan fiasco.

All these asinine UNnecessary foreign wars to lose bllod and treasure, and what was gained exactly?

Vietnam never became a democracy.
Iraq never became a democracy and gave birth to ISIS.
Afghanistan has never been conquered in history of world. But our leaders ignore history. Afghanistan is still radical Islamist country.

Now our stupid leaders are repeating same mistake over and over again in Ukraine. What do they call someone who keeps repeating same blunder again and again?

“everyone’s finger in the pot”

Great points .... but I would say it’s more like everyone is face first, ears deep in the slop trough.

Beware. democrats are liars. They aren’t going to fix the border because they are the ones who opened the border.

“Iraq never became a democracy and gave birth to ISIS.”

Iraq is one of seven countries that have been designated by the Secretary of State as state sponsors of international terrorism. UNSCR 687 prohibits Saddam Hussein from committing or supporting terrorism, or allowing terrorist organizations to operate in Iraq. Saddam continues to violate these UNSCR provisions.

Iraq was active also by themselves like in 1993 when the Iraqi Intelligence Service (IIS) directed and pursued an attempt to assassinate, through the use of a powerful car bomb, former U.S. President George Bush and the Emir of Kuwait. Kuwaiti authorities thwarted the terrorist plot and arrested 16 suspects, led by two Iraqi nationals.

Iraq sheltered several prominent Palestinian terrorist organizations in Baghdad, including the Palestine Liberation Front (PLF), which is known for aerial attacks against Israel and is headed by Abu Abbas, who carried out the 1985 hijacking of the cruise ship Achille Lauro and murdered U.S. citizen Leon Klinghoffer.

The war didn’t create ISIS. It was there long before that as was Osama Ben Laden who was treated medically in Baghdad for kidney problems and did weapons business with Saddam, none admittd to as the US was involved. But that was hidden also just like the weapons found in Iraq both NBC and conventional. Few know about the storage of conventional weapons.

“... but I would say it’s more like everyone is face first, ears deep in the slop trough. ..just my take on it.”

You’ll notice I never said why it was done, just that it was done. There were many reasons over 100 years, but never any answers. And of course, never any questions either.

Sounds like the House is trying to reconstitute the Senate’s Ukraine Border Bill and Ukraine National Security Bill into one bill again.

The biggest chunk of the support for Ukraine, so far, has been sending weapons, mostly older stuff, some even overdue for scrapping. (Congress neglected to appropriate $$ for the scrapping.) Then, the newly appropriated money goes to buy new / updated weapons to replenish stocks.

You oppose this?

P.S. There is NO believable evidence that any of the larger / more costly weapons have turned up outside Ukraine, except a few captures in Russia now.

The biggest chunk of what has been sent to Ukraine so far is actual physical weapons — the real money being in the bigger / more costly stuff.

The money appropriated for weapons actually goes to purchase new weapons to replenish stocks sent to Ukraine. Definitely new stuff is coming in — the US added nearly 100 HIMARS launchers to its own stocks in 2023, for example. (To date we’ve sent from stocks to Ukraine, 39, and the original plan was to add around 50 to US stocks in 2023, so, the numbers are not too far out of whack, at least for this item, and certainly not indicative of monies being diverted elsewhere.)

Now, if you can prove monies HAVE been diverted, that’d be quite a scoop, and would sink the parties involved for sure. But that requires evidence, not just vague assertions.
