Fr Dougherty must have known the sacrilegious travesty that was planned. Even in the unlikely event he did not, he’s under an obligation to safeguard the Eucharist, that is, even if he was ignorant, he was not required to go through it just to be nice. The mockery of the Communion of Saints is bad enough . The author is sympathetic to this grotesquerie and therefore doesn’t address the blasphemy that I fear took place, that communion was distributed to persons who openly mock the Lord.
Maryknolls like Fr Dougherty are second only to Jesuits in being leftist crackpots. He should be subject to strict discipline. Though I’m sure he still doesn’t think he did anything wrong, he’s actually committed grave sins and put his soul in peril.
