Actually, it does matter. I did opposition research for a state Republican Party for many years and found that quite a few Democrat candidates and officeholders are squirrelly, sometimes in a dangerous way. Republicans are rarely like that and tend to lose out if they are.

I wondered about this difference for some time and gradually realized that it reflected the different culture of our two political parties and the higher degree of scrutiny that the news media direct at the GOP and its leaders, candidates, and officeholders.

Republicans tend to see public office as a calling that requires a sense of personal responsibility and restraint. Democrats see politics and public office as an expression of themselves, even to the point of fringe behavior. And the Democrats defend their own tenaciously, Republicans not so much.

Public Administrator. How is it a partisan elected office? Feeds the power hungry. Those folks are out there.

LIke, say a guy who dresses in women’s clothes he steals at airports and then get appointed to an important office by a Democrat President.
