I’ve flown in and out of Indianapolis many times. I don’t know about the residential character of the surrounding area, but the Waffle House is in the middle of one of those adjacent-to-the-airport hotel and casual dining sprawl developments. It’s right in front of the Indianapolis Airport Red Roof Inn and Suites. A La Quinta Inn (Wyndham), Fairfield Inn & Suites (Marriott, and Residence Inn (Marriott) are a block away, as are several other casual dining restaurants.
12:30 a.m.? Airport overnight housing? Airport workers heading to or getting off work? Local shady types from down the street? This one could be a bit surprising.
P.S. In any event, it’s not downtown. This happened out around the airport and just off the interstate. Could be anything.
Near the airport isn’t safe anymore. I have a friend that was coming back from Scotland and had a choice to pay to stay at an Airport Hotel overnight to catch a shuttle ride north to where we live the next day, or pay more for a cab ride home. She chose the cab ride same day..
Indy isn’t a safe city anymore. It has really went downhill in the last 15-20 years.
It has really great suburbs. For now anyway.
