Democrats blast ‘dangerous’ Capital One-Discover merger

A proposed Capital One-Discover merger drew swift backlash from some Democratic lawmakers and consumer advocacy groups who say the deal could reduce competition and increase fees and costs for consumers.

“With a merger this size, the regulators need to ensure our financial system remains strong and competitive, so that consumers continue to have access to safe, affordable financial products and services,” said Senate Banking Committee Chair Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio).

“A rubber-stamped merger that makes powerful financial companies even bigger and more powerful will do nothing for families,” he added.

Capital One announced Monday that it would acquire Discover Financial Services in a $35.3 billion, all-stock deal. The deal could close as early as late 2024, pending approval from regulators and shareholders of the two companies.

Everything is dangerous and threatens democracy and a national security concern, world ending, racist...

That’s why we can’t take anything they say seriously.

Family, family, family, what have the Democrats done to promote family values? Black families have 70% single households and what percent of the children end out in jail, gangs, or Valhala? Lyndon Johnson started this nightmare.

For once I’m on their side. This is a huge anti-trust issue.

Conservatives should not feel the need to jump in to help Wall Street.

They’re certainly all statists, and mostly woke-leftists, who when they need something, will make sure donations go to the right Uniparty people.

Lyndon Johnson started this nightmare.

Yes he did. Everything wrong with this country today can be traced back the The Great Society’s destruction of the black family.

Who even has a Discover Card? can you use them anywhere?

And Capital One cards are notoriously high interest, with large fees.

If someone is not sharp enough to beat the credit card game, they deserve to fall victim to the Capital One-Discover swindle.

There are plenty of other cards out there.

We’ve used Discover for years. Never pay a penny of interest.

They caught a scammer a couple months ago with a $30 purchase and called us. I have no complaints.

Sherrod Brown - that name is as old as Metzenbaum, and equally inept in Ohio politics. He’s a moron, like all libtards.

Not really, this is jus ta Democrat fund raising scheme. They will obviously get campaign contributions and then throw in some tax breaks to show there are no hard feelings. This is good for all sides except the consumer.

“...the regulators need to ensure our financial system remains strong” — Senate Banking Committee Chair Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio).

She then went on to say “We need to borrow another two trillion we don’t have to take care of our immigrant friends.”
