I am pretty upset at the IRS - they have not been cashing our estimated tax checks. The first one was in March and they sent it back with tons of penalties - which we had to jump through a bunch of hoops to get that reversed. The next two were not cashed either and we haven’t every heard why on those two. The 4th quarter we did electronically, but it ticks me off we have to do that.

They sent me a check out of the blue last september and it included some interest. Then they send me a letter basically saying it was a mistake and I had to pay it back. Ok, kind of expected it. So, I paid it back, all of it, on time. Now they sent me a 1099-INT for the interest, telling me to report it on my 2023 return. Are these 85,000 new agents in India?
Same thing here. I had the state LOSE my estimated tax
Check. Then they fined me for not sending it to them.
I got an extension electronically last April for my 2022 tax return. I sent them a check for $750 and then filed my return in October and sent another check for $115. In December I got a letter saying I filed late and now owed them $13. WTF? My kids are always after me for not filing my entire return electronically, but I learned my lesson yrs ago. Every return is now sent certified mail so they can’t “lose” it.
