Funny Biden doesn’t mention Bobby Byrd, a Democrat, and a grand dragon of the KKK.
Instead, he mentions Strom Thurmond. yes, Strom was born in the South at the time of segregation and he was, for many years, a segregationist himself.
Nevertheless, as Governor, he sought justice for African Americans in his state. He was considered a progressive for his time and place, and was honored for his efforts by the the NAACP.

Later, with the end of segregation, he embraced equal rights (within the principles of the Republican Party, which he switched to).
For many years, his positions on race seemed incongruent. Then we found out about his relation with a African American female, and his (secret) financial support of their child. She grew up to follow in Strom’s first career, as a school teacher. (This was before he joined the army during WWII and, at the age of 47, became a paratrooper.)
We may never know how many white Southerners had relations that crossed the racial bar, and were themselves victims of segregation.
It’s like slavery itself. Few white Southerners owned slaves. Most white Southerners were, in fact, victims of slavery, since the slave system lacked the dynamism of a market economy. But, for brain-addled people like Joe Biden, a simple-minded “us good, they bad,” replaces the actual complexities of Southern life historically and currently.
This simple-minded view is profoundly un-American and un-Christian. The defining character of our country is that we are all free and equal; and, the defining character of Christianity is that we are all sinners and in need of mercy.
How dare Joe Biden, a draft dodger in his day, single out a man who volunteered for service during WWII, was part of D-Day, was awarded two Legions of Merit, a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart.
I guess Joe’s democratic principles include imprisoning and trying to imprison and financially destroy his political opponents.
