The UK plan is to turn off all PSTN and ISDN services (landlines) in 2025. Users will have to move to a digital phone of some kind, wireless or wired to a VoIP box. After this happens, everyone’s phone will be dependent on the internet, one way or the other.

I suspect the US is going to let UK be the guinea pig but won’t be far behind.

Interesting since carriers are still using that copper, and as long as you have an upstream connection in your house golly there's all kinds of shiznit you can do...
