My mom had vascular dementia, and in her last couple of years, she wanted ice cream ALL the time. It was her very favorite thing, and at some point, we just gave her whatever she wanted. One night while I was taking care of her, she asked for ice cream cones 6 times. She couldn’t remember she had just finished one. It was sad and sweet at the same time.
Conservative98 posted a very interesting article about caring for Alzheimer’s patients - post #7. Article listed many of the difficulties family care givers experience, in caring for them. My grandmother had Alzheimer’s. I worry about inheriting it, but I never considered the experience of my sons, if they take care of me.
