The prime suspect in the disappearance of 13-year-old Madeline Soto has been arrested and now faces charges in connection to disturbing footage discovered on his phone, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.

Stephan Sterns, 37, the boyfriend of Soto’s mother, was the last person confirmed to have seen the girl Monday morning, the sheriff’s office said.

An affidavit for Sterns’ arrest warrant describes how Soto’s mother reported Madeline missing around 8 p.m. Monday, telling investigators that Sterns had picked the girl up from her home and dropped her off that morning at Hunter’s Creek Middle School. When Soto’s mother went to the school to pick her up around 4:30 p.m. however, she was told Madeline wasn’t there and had never been at school that day, deputies said, adding the girl had left her phone at home.

Sterns refused to show up for his first appearance, according to the judge Thursday morning. Sterns faces charges of sexual battery and possession of child sexual abuse material, according to the sheriff’s office.

Wednesday night on social media, the sheriff’s office described Sterns’ arrest. The investigation into Soto’s disappearance had reportedly led detectives to “images and videos that were criminal, and sexual in nature” during a forensic examination of the 37-year-old’s phone, the post states. Further, detectives notified Kissimmee police upon determining “those crimes were committed at the family home in Kissimmee,” prompting the Kissimmee Police Department to take the lead on the sexual battery case alongside the sheriff’s office’s Criminal Investigations Division, according to the statement.

Read this probable killer claimed he “accidentally” set his cell phone back to factory settings. How does one do that by accident?

So many such stories about “mom’s boyfriend.”

One doesn't. Accidentally.

It happens throughout the animal kingdom. The new male kills the offspring of the previous male, thus bringing the female into estrus more quickly. [This comment is best read in a David Attenborough voice.]

I agree. More interested in a warm body at night than the safety of their daughters, and at times their sons as well.

I don’t think you do. I believe the phone warns you about the consequences and asks you if you are certain that you wish to proceed.

I think this situation aligns to the animal kingdom differently.

More like why the fox wants to sneak into the hen house. The prey he is after is an easy target once he’s breached the fence!!

A child, boy or girl, is in much more danger in the home of a single mother than in the home of a single father or in the home of the child’s mother and father.

Mama gets lonely don’t ya know?

I don’t think it can be done accidentally.

Also, why would a 13 year old mention at the time of her birthday (she had just turned 13) that she wanted to go live in the woods?! I grew up in Florida. Between the mosquitos, snakes, rats, feral dogs/cats, and whatnot it’s the last place anyone would want to live. Much less a young girl.

...some boyfriend with a long rap sheet I understand.

My aged mother lives next door to a lady whose live in boyfriend is on the sex offender list in Florida. Violent sex offender that is. My mother is safe from him no doubt as he preyed on little girls. When my sister found out my mom wouldn’t believe her, and when she finally DID believe her guess what? The fact “Dave” helps my mom by taking out trash, doing odd jobs, etc. outweighed the fact he had this “past”.

Begs belief don’t it? Convenience can make a lot of bad some become invisible. Makes my head spin.

I am thinking I would have led of with, “My disowned mother/demented mother/no longer trusted mother...”

You see where I am going.

It should actually scare the shite out of you because she’s obviously geared towards quite possibly overlooking any activity with her own offspring’s offspring.

Folks who can make excuses/allowances for evil in thier world for the sake of convience can easily barter the safety of their own bloodline....

It’s been done all throughout history.

Yep. That woman would no longer be in the family tree as far as I am concerned.

Heart-attack-drop-dead serious.

I grieve for your hurt. I really do...
