Consider: Paul Ryan is a career politician. When President Trump was elected, he was as the top of his profession, Speaker of the House. President Trump handed him a golden opportunity - Speaker of the House with a Republican Senate and a Republican President.
He should have been overjoyed.
Instead, he does everything he can to block Trump's agenda, says he will retire, gets 40 more members of the House to retire, blocks efforts for serious Republican nominees in those seats, and manages to insure a Democrat controlled House in 2018.
Politicians learn to put personal animosity on hold their entire lives to get what they want.
This smells far more of blackmail by someone to stop Trump, with Paul Ryan as their cat's paw.
Hard to know if we will ever find out.

Paul Ryan was a rino. He was best friends (schoolmates I believe) with Reince Preibus and the VP candidate of Romney/Ryan ticket. It’s obvious where his loyalties were. He retired after he and his family invested heavily in US oil companies. And then pushed the bill thru that US oil could be exported. He was paid well. Built a huge wall around his home in Wisconsin but not on the southern border. What more can I say
