Louisiana will likely become the twenty-eighth state to restore Constitutional Carry (permitless carry). South Carolina is in the process of rectifying versions of a (permitless) Constitutional Carry bill in a conference committee. There is a good chance South Carolina will pass a bill acceptable to both the South Carolina House and Senate.

Louisiana already passed a Constitutional Carry bill in 2021. The bill passed with veto-proof majorities, but Governor Bel Edwards (D) was able to sustain a veto with a combination of arm-twisting and promises.

In 2023, Louisiana voters elected Governor Jeff Landry (R). Governor Landry has promised to sign a Constitutional Carry (permitless) bill if it reaches his desk. Support for Senate Bill 1 (SB1) is high. It was passed in the Senate 28 to 10 on February 22, with all Republicans voting for the bill. It was sent to the House Committee on Administrative Justice on February 23. The bill is expected to be passed by the Louisiana House. Republicans hold a supermajority in the House with 73 Republicans and 32 Democrats. All seats were up for election in 2023. The Republicans gained two seats by filling an empty seat and replacing one Democrat.

Here is the most important part of the bill. From Louisiana SB1, ยง95. Illegal carrying of weapons:

It will take effect July 4th. After that, it is not just criminals who will be allowed to carry.

Outstanding. My home state of Kansas is a Constitutional Carry state. Don’t need a concealed carry permit here although I have one. Why? Because f them that’s why.

Finally. It’s been a hard-fought battle there.
Should have happened last year but that RAT governor “pulled the rug out from under em” a the last minute. That really PO’ed a whole lot of people BIG TIME.
Glad that useless POS is long gone.
FWIW, just about everybody I know from there carries with, or without, a CCP.
Might as well just make it legal since about 85% of the adult population was likely carrying subject to being arrested otherwise.
Not sure about the following statistic, but I think I’ve read somewhere that Louisiana has the highest gun ownership per capita of any state, including its much bigger neighbor, Texas.
One thing I do know: the Cajuns I’m acquainted with are all armed to the fricken’ teeth. They’re a friendly, peaceful, fun-loving bunch that will do anything for ya within reason.....just don’t piss em off.
And oh, yeah, they can play that Cajun fiddle music and cook Louisiana cuisine like crazy too...lol.
