They should be able to afford some pretty nice gigs with what they make off U.S. Government benefits and the unreported dough they make with the sales made with their street taco “food” trucks.

They often work better-paying construction jobs - for cash, of course - so they remain eligible for every welfare program available, food stamps, cash, free phones, etc.
I knew a lawyer that sent collectors to constructions sites on payday to collect child support - that was the only way the mother could get it - meanwhile the father was driving a new car, with a new girlfriend, new clothes, going on vacations, etc. - while pleading in front of a judge that he “had no money and no job” to fulfill the child support order.
