An academic equity official has pleaded guilty to embezzling millions from New York University and using the money for personal expenses and an $80,000 pool at her luxe Connecticut home from funds that were supposed to go to women and minority businesses.

Cindy Tappe, 57, pleaded guilty Monday, according to Manhattan prosecutors.

After stealing the funds, she landed a new job as operations director at the Yale School of Medicine. The Ivy League school fired her after the charges became public.

Tappe, a former director of finance and administration at NYU's Metropolitan Center for Research on Equity and Transformation of Schools, sent about $3.5 million to a pair of shell companies she controlled between 2012 and 2018, according to prosecutors and the state comptroller's office.

To those on the left, "equity" means it's "my turn at the trough".

Better the money was ripped off rather than blown on the equity scam.

The intended use was never the intended use. The grift was the intended use.

Cindy is in good company. Hunter had 20 shell companies for money laundering.

If she stole from a political “equity”slush fund she only harmed criminals. She should get a medal.

Kudos. Right on the nose. The theft of public monies is made possible by GOVERNMENT making the monies available.

Which implies that we ought to celebrate this individual. She siphoned off $$ intended for the commie trash in charge. That is, in some sense, a good thing.
That she was an “equity” officer is the tell. She is corrupt.

Evidently the Equity Officer was not paid enough, and so was forced into a life of crime.

I therefore demand equity for Equity Officers!

And for a high six-figure salary I will be happy to coordinate this new initiative.

It's an extension of Menken's law - if A injuries B on behalf of X, A is a scoundrel.

The whole deepstate are scoundrels.

funds that were supposed to go to women and minority businesses.

Well, she appears to be both a woman and a minority and her business was buying swimming pools so what's the problem?

I’m sorry, but we are going to have to start hanging thieves.

They are driving the cost of everything up.

The best and the brightest. Our betters LOL

As an aside, Fox must work pretty hard to make every one of their websites so unusable and irritating. Sometimes when I see that a link is to a fox site I don’t go to it because I’ve had all the annoyances I need for the day

That reminds me of the story of the farmer who was on trial for stealing a mule from another farmer. The jury came back with a verdict and told the judge they found the farmer not guilty provided he gave the mule back.

The judge berated them saying that there was not such verdict allowed under the law. The judge just sent the jury back to deliberate. The jury returned in five minute with the verdict: Not guilty and he can keep the damn mule.
