The Court holds that "[b]ecause the Constitution makes Congress, rather than the States, responsible for enforcing Section 3 against federal officeholders and candidates, we reverse."

“I guess this means that the traffic court judge in Chicago can’t keep Trump off the Illinois ballot.”

i wonder if the illinois state election board will now unilaterally ignore the fool county judge, or if plaintiffs will be forced to file a motion to vacate?

Even the 3 idiot liberals on the court got that one. Folks, the constitution was written so a farmer could understand it. No need for a bunch of winery lawyers to go making stuff up by misreading or incompletely reading text that’s pain black and white.

Stalin has told them, from his grave-— “it’s who counts them that matter” and thus their constant devious corruption of the People’s will and choice.

Barrett’s “reasoning” is ironic and a bit scary: SCOTUS mustn’t clarify all the legal issues being used to stir up partisan rancor and interfere in the election, because ... clarity might stir up partisan rancor. She wants the SC to self-limit to placate the (potential) howling mob.

Yeah, that’ll work...

Me, too. I expected this. Then, again, you never know.

The Coloradans need to look at the bright side of this. Their “medicinal” marijuana is still legal to “recreate” with. They can still “recreate” and get their Rocky Mountain High Therapy at the same time.

Something a few Freepers have noted but thought was worth repeating:

Indeed, in some States—unlike Colorado (or Maine, where the secretary of state recently issued an order excluding former President Trump from the primary ballot)—procedures for excluding an ineligible candidate from the ballot may not exist at all.

Emphasis added.

This decision is simply saying states have no authority to decide federal election qualification. Very common sense. Plain.

Therefore, States have no authority to decide if a candidate is a Natural Born Citizen (whatever that means) ... so people need to quit bitching about States not doing that in regard to Obama, Haley, etc.

The secretary of state in Maine along with the other state-wide cabinet officers are not elected. At the state level, the governor is elected. There is no lieutant governor.

The state house and senate meeting as a single body select the secretary of state, attorney general, and other state-wide officers by a majority vote. So which ever party holds a majority of the total members in the state house and senate selct the state officials.

I know of nothing that would justify adjudicating Trump to be guilty of “insurrection or rebellion against” the Constitution or the federal government.

The “go wild” is a party term and is not meant to indulge in criminal or other unlawful activity.

I suspect nearly every one of them voted for Biden:

“Our premium in-person conference is unlike any other. The speakers, the swag, & the spirit of GO Wild are hard to describe.”

In light of this latest ruling, how could SCrOTUS go against Trump in the POTUS immunity case? Seems they are the same thing really.

t’s time to say it: the US supreme court has become an illegitimate institution

https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2022/jun/25/us-supreme-court-illegitimate-institution

The ruling won’t stand. It will be thrown out on appeal at the DNC convention because the Supreme Court is illegitimate.

Thanks.
bkmk ....

And as for Colorado’s electoral votes, their validity would be decided by Congress

These days Colorado is a deep blue state, so no worries about their electoral votes being presided over by Harris.

“how could SCrOTUS go against Trump in the POTUS immunity case”

Because no one is above the law.

Trump has at least the same level of qualified immunity as Biden’s Secretary of Defense, Biden’s Attorney General or the guy who killed Ashley Babbitt.

It’s not absolute. Derek Chauvin was sent to prison.

“Ummm ... not to get too picky, but isn’t this exactly what the USSC is supposed to do? That is, they’re to decide the issue before them. Period. Why then the editorializing?”

Because, for whatever reason (and you can speculate)... some folks love to kick a gift horse in the teeth.
